Mmm, yes, of course the author isn't going to take that point into consideration. If the author had come up with a way to justify it, it would have been something along the lines of "I'm familiar with this character and team and I don't know about other ones, so I don't know the rest of hockey "canon". Thus, I continue to write about what I know"? I don't think that's a good argument, but it's the only one I can see being made.
