Fairly simplistic and a little outdated.

I am very confused by how that includes both Hartford and Carolina and both Colorado and Quebec City, and yet neither Atlanta nor Winnipeg nor Arizona and ignores Minnesota, Columbus, Dallas, and Nashville entirely.

I mean, if you're including moved franchises, at the very least the North Stars and the Blackhawks fucking hated each other.

I'm wondering when this was made... and considering making a graphic that's a little clearer to read.

Not to mention the Panthers and the Bolts don't hate each other and never have; this comes up in nearly every rivalry thread on r/hockey. Some franchises simply don't have established rivals (yet).

Re: Hockey questions

Yeah, the three things /r/hockey's rivalry threads have taught me are that the Bolts and the Panthers love each other, everybody wants Minnesota and Winnipeg to have a rivalry but they don't, and basically everybody loves CBJ.

Re: Hockey questions

From: (Anonymous)
Nashville doesn't love Columbus (and vice-versa) but no one really cares.

I don't know any fanbase that considers CBJ a rival since you tend to need to have success for that but outside of reddit I know plenty of people who are either indifferent to CBJ or dislike them.

And by success, I mean that it's playoffs that really build rivalries.

Idk, Chicago doesn't really hate Minnesota, and the ultra Chicago/Detroit people don't acknowledge St Louis either. Rivalries as a concept aren't well-defined and they're subject to a lot of gatekeeping.

...Chicago definitely acknowledges the rivalry with St. Louis.

SA Never mind, I misread what you were saying. /needs coffee

I said "the ultra Chicago/Detroit people". As in, no rivalry in hockey will ever top this one except Montreal/Boston! Original Six! Tbf, most of them are Detroit fans.

My point is that there are people for whom if you don't have 75+ years of beating one another up, it doesn't count as a rivalry.

Re: Hockey questions

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, I realized that when I re-read. And I agree! Some people are hardcore about their rivalries. Especially O6ers.

The one that surprises me in those threads is that the Wild hate the Avs more than the Hawks, which is very counterintuitive.
