Ask for screencaps??

From whom? Of what? The original author has deleted their fandom presence. I could send an email to my sock email giving myself permission, and no one would be able to tell that I wasn't the original author.

The original author would still have the fandom email with which they signed up to ao3.

If this person really does have permission, they should be able to ask them for an email from that account.

Not difficult.

Report it. I hate that someone could get away with this just because the writer has left fandom and they think no one will notice or care.

ao3 could also just email the author themselves, but yes I see your point.
