IS there a rule like this? I've never heard of one.

DA
Idk, but there's clearly a rule about media appearances in the NFL per Marshawn Lynch's 'I'm here so I don't get fined.' Which now that I think about the non-answersost players give means the same thing.

Yeah, the NFL is way more hardcore about that stuff, though, isn't it? At least that's the imrpession I had.

The guy who tweeted that is a PHWA member, who is confirming that that isn't allowed.

Teams have to make players available at the request of the media, but if they delay all contact with reporters until after the player they KNOW they'll want to talk to has already hustled out of the building, then they can just shrug and go "sorry, he's already left, here's who's available for the scrum."

How it works in the ECHL, who knows if it's the same in the NHL: Reporters fire off emails to the team media rep as soon as something happens, requesting that the player be made available after the game. If the team plays dumb and the reporters complain, they have documentation that a request was made. IDK off the top of my head the last time a team was fined for not making a player available though. They're just like "we can't hold the guy against his will to talk to the press, he went home."
