Dupuis, Zuccarello, Jagr

OK, Dupuis and Zuccarello I get, because they are both recovering from really serious illness/injury (I assume Dupuis will get it because he retired), but is Jagr's just for being old? Isn't Jagr coming back next year?

The Masterton is about dedication to the sport, not an injury-comeback award. It just usually goes to the guy who got hurt the worst.

True, and Jagr is clearly dedicated to the sport, but IDK if he's particularly more dedicated this season than previous season, so it just feels like the 'you're old' award.

I feel like the year he actually retires, Jagr's just going have to win it.

Yes, but this year isn't that year, as far as I know. Which is why I was asking.

It's never been an award given to people whose careers were over, though. Even when awarded to those who have comeback from tragedy.

No, my point is more 'how is this year different from all other years?' for Jagr, not that his career would have to be over. Like, sure, give it to him because he's obviously dedicated to the game, but ma nishtana.

Last year there was serious thought that he might be done and was hanging on too long. He didn't do well in Jersey and while he had success in Florida after the trade it was a small sample size. He wasn't even put forward as the team nominee.

Dedication and *perseverance* which makes particular sense in Jagr's case.

The PHWA in recent years has been pressuring voters to look at reasons other than health or personal tragedies.

I'm a Pens fan, and I have a feeling they're going to give it to Duper to make up for last year's mess but I actually would be fine with Zucc winning it.

I would have been fine with Darling getting it, but Dubnyk getting it for... getting traded from a terrible team to an okay team and getting a hot hand? That does not impress me.

I know there's a push not to just vote for the worst injury, but this year I really think it should go to Zuccaerllo. I mean, he had to learn to talk again? That's just nuts.

I hope it goes to Dupuis, because even though he had to retire for his health, he is still constantly with the team. I don't think there's been a single ep of In the Room without Duper in it. Even though he can't play anymore, he's still there helping and supporting his organization, teammates, and sport.

(I also love that apparently he and MAF were cheering on Matt Murray like proud papas the last game. so cute!)
