So this is on-ice douchebaggery? That makes more sense. I thought surely if he was, say, a sexual harassing type, I'd have heard of it by now.

Off the ice he's a doll. Sharp recently gave an interview saying that coming from a division rival he was prepared to hate Roussel but couldn't because he is such a great guy.

I'm a fan of another Central team and I hate Roussel on the ice, but I've never really heard anything bad about him off of it. He strikes me as one of those guys who's an excellent pest and kind of a dick on-ice, but a decent person off of it. (Standard disclaimer that I don't know him personally, so he could be an all around douche, but I've never heard anything to indicate that he is.)

His on ice behaviour is mostly being as annoying as possibl. He's a pest, but I don't think he's ever done anything dirty. I think they're very similar with Gallagher, always playing and living the game 110% and creating havoc at the opponent's goal, but there's less scoring and smirking with Roussel.

Off ice he's charming, sunny, extremely nice and always polite and considerate towards the fans.

With Roussel, there's more running his mouth and insulting your fashion sense, your pet, a deluge of things in French, dishonor upon your cow, etc.

He's made some seriously stupid and bad moves (he deserved that suspension, lbr) but he's learned to walk the right side of playing on that edge.

From all accounts off the ice he's basically the nicest guy in the world. When the Stars switched his number a few years ago (from 60 to 21) he offered to pay for anyone who had purchased his jersey before the switch to get it fixed, as a quick example.

Another example: He'll always come out and sign after practice. Always. Even if all the other guys go home early, Roussel will always sign for the fans.

Don't forget his cat club.

...What's a cat club?

Rous is a total cat person (he has a cat named Minou, which I believe is basically French for cat? It's been a while since my college forced me to take French) and is trying to start a cat club within the team by encouraging his teammates to get cats of their own :D apparently Jamie Benn is now a member.

What if I told you he got kicked off his rugby team when he was *four* for basically taking over and constantly convincing his teammates to take water breaks during practice?

Because he got too hot!

You mean, some of them. It seemed like he replied to more cat pics than actual questions.

I was in class during his takeover and didn't get to tweet him a picture of my cat. It made me sad.

True. It's probably a good thing that black cat didn't walk across the Stars' ice or Roussel would have spent the whole game on the bench cuddling it and trying to teach it French.

He was probably mad that it didn't.

It was an opportunity he didn't have to convince someone to join the cat club.

Is he trying to expand his club to include the Sharks? Is he asking Demers for everyone's phone numbers?

I would 100% read that.

They've got enough ex-Sharks to give him a leg up here.
