Caps nonnies, is Tom Wilson useful to the team for anything but an enforcer role? I don't hate him but it seems like every time I watch the Caps play his only contribution is hard hits which doesn't seem to fit much with his 'great potential'

I have been wondering this for a while and always forget to ask but tonight may not be the best. Again I do generally like him though

I wanna say that towards the middle of this season he played better and less enforcerish and took fewer penalties and he looked better then. Not amazing or anything, but pretty solid. In the playoffs it seems like they want him to play an enforcer role though so now we're stuck with this (for now?).

This is really more of an impression though and I don't have numbers to back that up right now.

That may be true... and I suppose he'll never be a big scorer so it's possible I just didn't hear his rate of penalties/hits during the season. Obviously all eyes are on him now though

Hitting hard is obviously part of his role, but 1) that's not what enforcing is 2) he does more than that, notably on the PK.

But honestly this isn't a great time for this conversation.

To be blunt and quick: Yes. He's become one of the best penalty killers. He's good at forcing turnovers. He's been moved to the fourth line at the moment to be a steady shut down line, but still playing 10 minutes or more a night. The end.
