na

All the people who creep through OHL kids' Instagrams and Snaps. They're barely 18 (and sometimes not even that!)

if the person doing the creeping is also 18 or younger this isn't that weird to me, but I might be immune because of my own experiences as a Bandom Teen. (not doing the creeping myself, but being in an rpf fandom just as social media was getting huge was an...experience).

Most of the people I've seen who are super into OHL stuff are like 20 or under basically the same age range.

A person can be close to them in age and the creeping still gets close to stalking (like where they know the names of their girlfriends, family, friends, etc) If the person is much over 20 then yeah, it just becomes weird. I think it's because they aren't even bandom-level famous yet, just high school kids.

oh yeah I know what you mean, it just kind of reminds me of bandom because it was normal to know all the details about somebody's life when that somebody isn't really famous at all for people outside of the fandom/community. it can seem like nbd to the people doing the stalking but to outsiders it's definitely weird.

I fully admit sometimes I feel weird about the level of personal detail I know about my rpf faves, BUT they're all well-paid athletes who've been relatively famous for a while and I got all my info from interviews. Doing the same for guys under 20 who aren't even in the NHL yet and you're piecing it together from stalking their friends' and siblings' social media accounts is what's really weird for me.

Yeah I super avoid all player social media for this reason, tbh. When I was under 18 it was just vaguely uncomfortable but ~everybody was doing it~, now I try to be as ignorant as possible probably to try to rationalize to myself why I'm still in a rpf fandom however many years later lol.

granted I'm not Canadian but I don't get the appeal of OHL kids.

I think there's more appeal for people closer to the age of the players. There's a WHL team where I live and I go to some of the games because they're fun, cheap, and the closest NHL team is 6 hours away. But the players are all young enough to be my kid, so anything beyond just going to watch hockey and being happy for the guys who get drafted is a big nope for me.

Yeah, I'm invested in my alma mater's NCAA team, but as a team (and rooting for the guys who've made it to the NHL). Even then they're older, though.

I *am* Canadian and I don't get the appeal.

I don't know if it is a Canadian thing beyond some people growing up with OHL teams so they already have an interest in the league.
