So the Stars-Blues game was a friend's first game. She got swayed into tuning in by my inability to talk about anything but hockey on Facebook. It was actually more fun than I expected to explain things like icing and offside calls - like that feeling when you know the answer on a test lol. I gave her a brief primer pre-game and she kept asking why there weren't any penalties yet for the first half of the game. She was so intrigued by the idea of handicapping teams when a penalty is called.

She was enamored with the goalies doing their things, specifically she ended up an Ells fangirl. I was delighted she enjoyed it! (And that it was easy enough for her to cheer on the Blues even though even she could tell they didn't have the best first period.)

That's awesome! I love going to/watching games with people who are new to the sport. It's so fun.

I commend your friend for being an Ells fan, too! One of my favorite parts of this playoffs so far is all the positive attention he's been getting. You go, Moose. <3

Isn't that the best feeling? I just did the same thing with my brother for the first time and I was falling all over myself explaining forechecking and backchecking and why a faceoff happens here or there. I probably told him more than he needs to know, haha, but it's so nice being able to share an interest like that.

I feel like the Blues are gaining a lot of traction this playoffs run, in terms of people both inside and outside of hockey getting into them for the first time. It's exciting for me as an out-of-market fan to see the hype build where I don't expect it.

Yup, the best feeling. I did some over-explaining at the start of the game, but we found our info-sharing rhythm sometime in the second kind of like the Blues found their pace.

We're both out-of-market fans too! Or at least I hope I can help sustain her interest for the rest of this playoff run, however longer that will be, so she can be a fan eventually.
