Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

How he got into hooking genuinely weirded me out and kind of - pulled the characterisation of the whole fic off for me. It's not even that it wasn't convincing, it's that it was convincing in a way that jars with the tone of the rest of the story.

Seriously, Jagr takes young teammates out to mob-run casinos and laughs at them when they run up huge debts they can't pay? I could definitely find that a plausible Jagr characterisation, but not in a fic where he's also a lovable team old dude. And in a fic where everyone's noticing and fretting about Ekblad, no one seems to pay any attention to Guddy. And maybe that's a realistic assessment of how teams treat their young stars as opposed to their midrange players, but again it jarred with the overall light tone for me.

Actually now I think about it, I don't know why Guddy didn't take out a bank loan to pay off his gambling debt.
