I find it odd there's been basically no promotion of the Showtime thing given that it starts in a little over a week. Or I've been missing it if they have talked about it. I kind of expected to have it shoved in my face like the World Cup promotion at least.

Haha literally an ad on now, so. Well called.

I'm going to assume that fan banging on the glass in the ad was a caps fan, but it really looked like Coyotes red (maroon, whatever their branded color name is) which is awkward.

Brick red.

Idk, do teams have "branded" colors? I the Stars have their own "victory green" officially, but do other teams?

Sa

I did a quick search and apparently Minnesota does: Iron Range Red, Forest Green, Harvest Gold, Minnesota Wheat, and White.

Everyone else has normal colors? Except whatever nebulous area that "Metallic gold" the Ducks use and the "Vegas gold" Pittsburgh is getting rid of fall into.

Can you really "brand" White or Forest Green? I mean, those are just colors.

(pst, i was lazy enough to just copy and paste. Minnesota Wheat, though.)

The Kings purple is "Forum Blue."

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
So you're telling me one of the few non-blue teams is still fucking blue?

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
If it's any consolation, it's not actually blue. They're just stuck with that name because Jack Kent Cooke was too chicken to admit that his favorite color was purple.

http://www.forumblueandgold.com/forum-blue/

I bet you he thought purple wasn't ~manly enough or something. Like those dudes who insist they're wearing "salmon" or "light red" when their shirt is fucking pink.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-20 06:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And actually, purple/Forum Blue isn't officially a Kings color anymore. They dumped it a while back, and they stripped out the last of the purple from their regular uniforms... maybe a few years before Cup #1? and now the official colors are just black, white and silver. You only get purple (and gold) on alternate uniforms now.

Pittsburgh also has "Pittsburgh Gold," which is the Gold that's been on their home jerseys throughout the playoffs (aka their 3rd jersey). It's Pantone 1235 C, and is the same gold as used by the Steelers and Pirates.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still lolling at the poster on here who thought the Pens 'stole' their colors from the Bruins or whatever.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
When the Pens changed their colors to black and gold, the Bruins actually did appeal to the league because they're so similar, but they got denied because the old Pittsburgh Pirates used the same colors so they weren't ~exclusively Bruins~.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, and the Steelers who've also been black and gold for the proceeding 20+ years before the 67 expansion ...

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what the Steelers have to do with the Bruins objecting to another hockey team starting to use the same colors as them but ok!!

(I know it's because it's Pittsburgh colors!!! woo!! but it's still valid for the Bruins to have objected. They're basically exactly the same.)

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, in all fairness to that anon, the Bruins did make a stink when Pittsburgh changed their colors. But it was definitely more of a case of the Pens wanting to match the city's other teams in the hopes of drawing more fans in than stealing from the Bruins.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I have no doubt the Bruins pitched a fit about it, but it doesn't mean the colors were 'stolen,' esp since the Steelers have been black and gold since 43 and the Bucs since the late 40s.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
And the Bruins have been black and gold since the early 30's, woo history.

...yes? That's why I said it was a case of them wanting to match the other teams. I don't actually think it was stealing at all, but the Bruins did protest it, so I can understand where maybe that particular anon got that idea from.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking of teams stealing colors, whose bright idea was it to allow two teams in the same league with the word "Blue" in their name? Just, why?

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-12 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
I like the history behind both names and that they're pretty unique for sports teams, so I'm okay with it.

Oh my god, I just blanked so hard on the 2nd name that I had to google. I can't believe I forgot the blue jackets existed for a second there...

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, no idea, that was just the first vaguely relevant word that occurred to me.

I didn't go to a college that was picky about the official gear colors, so I don't pay a lot of attention to pro teams use of same either. Like, I failed to develop that part of my brain during the impressionable years.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, well, yeah, I'm fairly sure most if not all teams have signature/brand colors. My school has a specific hex code/Pantone color we're supposed to use for everything official. It's a fairly reliable way to spot fakes, if you have an eye for shades.
