Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 11:45 am (UTC)(link)I think, perhaps, based on your comment on tinhats is that this might be a view you share. But not everyone feels that fic should exist to score points in an argument that is pretty irrelevant to many people who enjoy fic, without believing it has any relevance to the real life circumstances of the players.
Enjoying Sid fic isn't a sign that people believe he is with whoever any more than someone enjoying an oviposition fic means they actually believe that John Tavares is knocking up Dylan Larkin.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 11:53 am (UTC)(link)Although mpreg between John Tavares and Dylan Larkin is intriguing.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)Never apologise for spawning great ideas :D
Has there been rookie/vet mpreg prompts on the sin bin with the vet being the one knocked up? Because I have a sudden urge to fill something like that.
It would be more helpful if I knew anything about the Red Wings but the idea is now in my head.

I can stick up a Dylan Larkin prompt if you'd like?

Okay. And not everyone cares that you don't care? Do you see how this could get circular very fast.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)I couldn't resist replying.
What? Where did you get that? I don't care about whether someone prefers something else to what I like (or, you know, the exact same thing I like) but I came here to vent that people trying to hold liking that thing means they're at a higher standard than liking all the other things.
I could vent about certain people saying bottom!Sid is superior because it's the one true characterisation, therefore making it better than top!Sid, despite liking bottom!Sid myself, but I won't, partly because I've already had that vent and partly because it hasn't come up recently.
What I was trying to say is that I don't care what people like but I do find it annoying when someone reading/writing fic for a certain pairing talk about it like they're superior for liking it because it's non-problematic/slash/rare/not-slash/not abusive etc.

Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)Fic written to score points (SJ, shipping, bottom/top wank, ur tinhat is dumb, wtfever kind of points) against other fans is inevitably boring. In this case, if the fic is great and not written for that purpose but the commenters are using it to score points, they're not doing their pairing or their thoughts on supposed misogynist tinhats any good.
It's not a good look. But I know, I know, nobody cares what I or anyone else thinks so you all continue to do you.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)*I commented on a Sid/Kathy fill and it wasn't to spite tinhatters. I liked the particular fill and I like the pairing.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)Completely agreed. And there's a lot of proving the OP's point in this thread, so whatever.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)Oh yes, so much proving of the OP's point that obviously no one truly likes Sid/Kathy, everyone is just pretending to spite the crazy tinhatters.
Get out of here.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)From what I can gather, they feel Sid/Kathy commenters seem congratulatory because it's het and it upsets them to see people enjoying het? I fail to understand how that's being "proved" in this thread. But please. Continue on this transparent path you've set for yourself.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)People have lives/jobs/school and aren't on meme 24/7. Discussions that weren't occurring when I checked last night are somehow too old now that it is lunch time the next day. You have a seriously unrealistic idea about the time scale of these conversations and expecting people to be on meme at your convenience.
You don't own the conversation and get to decide who participates.

(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-05-11 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)Honestly, the sheer amount of comments to someone essentially saying "some comments struck me as self-congratulatory in nature" is pretty wtf. Oh no, someone in a fandom venting thread said that some comments sounded a little bit to them like some shippers thought they were superior to others for bullshit reasons! That's definitely something that has to be argued because it's so uncommon and a huge insult to everyone who ships that thing!
