https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/jenny-scrivens-retires--opting-for-family-over--dream-job-163655406.html

This was a great article in general. It talked about not only the difficulties of her own career, being a hockey spouse, and the changes in attitudes that need to happen.

Aw, I'm going to miss her in net and on the team. Still, I'm glad she's making the right decisions for herself.

Not limited just to the article, but I like how Scrivens talks about the words she chooses to use and why she chooses to use them. Especially drawing attention to stuff like spouses vs WAGs.

Yeah, I liked that too. I hate the term "WAGs" on so many levels, blergh...

Among other things, it just sounds so... ugly. It's an ugly-sounding word. I would be utterly delighted if we shifted to calling them all "partners."

da

wait, people actually say "WAGs" aloud instead of "Wives and Girlfriends?"

I can't speak for other people, but I tend to pronounce stuff in my head when I read, and in my head I pronounce it as a single one-syllable word, not as "wives and girlfriends." It's possible other people don't have this problem, though.

People definitely say 'WAGs' or 'she's a WAG' here (UK) when talking about football players and their partners.

I'm pretty sure that's where it originated and it spread to North America from there, already being said as a word rather than an acronym. I remember the first time I ever heard it here in the US was entertainment news coverage of the Spice Girls, quoting stuff from the UK that used it.

First, I want this to happen. Second, I want fic with hilarious misunderstandings where a d-man introduces someone as his partner and everyone assumes it's the other kind of partner.

Wonderful article! If Jenny's not going to, than I very much do hope Ben has a career in hockey next year, just so we can keep hearing from and about them. It seems like they always have nice things to say.

I had no idea she was also doing PR stuff for the league, plus being goaltender. I would have liked to have heard more about that rather than just one sentence about how that's something she'll also be giving up.
