Yeah, I got the sense that they paid very little attention to teams without a lot of hype around them from the first round analysis (didn't read the second round one), but I continue to be annoyed by it. And I don't think this one has enough humor to make up for the glaring lack of actual insight.

I thought the Shattenkirk stuff and the stuff about the Sharks PP was good.

I like the recognition of Shattenkirk, but they were way underselling Pietrangelo (or, you know, almost completely ignoring him). And I can't tell if it was just weird wording, but they seemed to imply that Shattenkirk is the Blues #1 shut down guy, which... no. He is very much not a shut down defenseman, which is fine, because he's very good at what he does! I love him and all, but the defensive side of his game has a lot of weaknesses.

da

I haven't read this article, but that sounds like to me they did a lot of word association and name recognition--the Blues have a great shutdown defense, quick name a dman on the team who's gotten some media buzz this year and then equate the two.

I think that's probably a lot of it, since they really played up the Blues defense, which makes sense, given that they're a team known for being strong defensively. But then they didn't seem to actually know that much about them defensively.

Also, like I said this may just be weird wording, but this is what I was talking about, since it seems to equate Shattenkirk with being a #1 shutdown guy, which is really bizarre:

In the Eastern Conference Preview, we talked about how rare it is for a defenseman to be a team’s offensive creator and also to be a No. 1 shutdown guy. There’s one guy I left out of that discussion who is playing in this series. Shattenkirk has really impressed me this season.

I'd guess that was the ghostwriter editing out some conversational filler and condensing some of the conversation.
