Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

From: (Anonymous)
I actually found this pretty enjoyable but Ekblad came across as a total wet blanket, which I guess was supposed to be the point since it was all about how he was young and needed to ~grow but it seemed out of character to me (although my knowledge of him is not expansive, & I could be wrong). I kinda agree about Gudbranson, for a long fic I needed more of an explanation at the end for his motivations. I might have liked it more through his POV, but then we wouldn't have Ekblad learning to be less annoying or whatever. I really did like it though I just like to complain!

What's the inversion? I'm curious, but since 99% of hooker fics aren't my thing...

I really liked it but I could have used more with Gudbrandson at the end.

Spoilers?

I'm guessing the inversion is that he's still an NHL player and not hooking to keep himself from homelessness or something, he just does it for extra cash because he's nervous about his place on the team and wants to save his salary for the future. I can't tell exactly what the author meant by it, but I think that's it.

I am 100% okay with spoilers, and anyway, the reply would be collapsed

So thanks.

Negative opinions: Expecting the Blues/Sharks to finished off their opponents is pretty funny, since they are both known as playoff chokers. If they both lose their game today, I expect them to lose to game 7.

I don't know if I'd call Nashville or Dallas finishers by comparison, though.

no prob, the spoilers were mild but it's a bit of a plot reveal so I thought I'd warn. also I'm too lazy to do a spoiler cut but whatever.

Okay, as a supporter of both the other teams, Don't jinx it

Re: Game Day Thread, May 9, 2016

From: (Anonymous)
They both also got to this round by exorcising previous playoff demons, so not so fast.

Does casual bandwagon fan even affect jinxing?

Subthread OP
Yeah, I was expecting more of an inverted inversion - like, IDK, Eckblad gets paid to sleep with him or something - as opposed to hooking for walking around money.

Re: Worlds!

I keep being excited when I see possible "creepy"/kinky Larkin porn, but it's uh generally not from a very readable crowd.

Re: Game Day Thread, May 9, 2016

What does this even mean? It's hockey. Everything affects jinxing.

Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

From: (Anonymous)
NA. The reason for hooking doesn't make much sense to me, he can make way more more by being a walking billboard.

I don't even care about either Krejci or Lucic, or time loops either for that matter, but I loved this fic so much. I liked how there's all this kissing and sex, but then it's talking about shit that's the big climax of the story.

Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

From: (Anonymous)
I actually really liked it for what it was - I liked the journeyman/star tension in how they talked around their boundaries, I liked Ekblad as an overthinker, for hockey values of overthinking, I was willing to accept Guddy's wonder at Ekblad's equanimity. I liked Ekblad not wanting to create tension with the older guys on the team. I thought the sex scenes were pretty hot.

It was very much Ekblad's story, which made it more challenging since the A plot was him just...wanting Guddy (and everyone else) to like, trust, and respect him, as opposed to a hooker fic where the plot might be to save Guddy from his hooking/tragic past/whatever, and being either right or wrong about how he went about it.

Honestly, the only thing that I wasn't totally on board with was how he got into hooking. Like, I totally would have just rolled with it if someone had mistaken him for a hooker because he was hanging out in a hotel bar, and he just built up word of mouth or something.

Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

From: (Anonymous)
this was why I wanted Gudbranson to talk more instead of just being passive agressive and kinda wish the fic was in his POV. Ekblad just accepts that his sort-of-bf is a hooker for kind of silly reasons (imo) but I think more Gudbranson backstory might have explained why he felt it was necessary to risk his whole career for cash for his hobbies? idk

Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

From: (Anonymous)
It honestly makes even less sense because Florida has zero income tax, so like, he's making a shit ton of money, and it would make more sense if he were into something that required a lot of cash on hand. Which one imagines are not in short supply in south Florida.

So, either more or less backstory would have made it work better.

I hate that my feed is always a couple minutes behind.

Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

From: (Anonymous)
I don't know what it says about fandom that I thought the inversion might just be that Gudbranson regularly goes to a hooker and Ekblad offers himself up as a free replacement. Or maybe their appointments to the same hooker overlap and they keep awkwardly running into each other in the hallway/parking lot.

Re: Fic Discussion - you come as a car crash

I would read both of those things, lol.

I know hockey players are prone to it, but a 24 year old calling a 20 year old "Kid" keeps making me slow-blink.

Can confirm.
