Re: What's Up With Your Team? - Playoffs Round 2

I'd say he's one of the seven wonders of the hockey world, I'm just saying Giroux doesn't need special national team privileges.

Anna's in less than half of it if that's what's bothering you- there's a lot of stuff with his parents and old coaches about his childhood, his contract drama with Metallurg and Gonch shows up at one point too.

Now I really want a fic with some sort of Czech conspiracy to steal Claude away from Canada.

He should go somewhere all his talents are appreciated, you know?

I was specifically addressing why not bring up Forbort and Gravel for Scuderi, not all the reasons the Kings lost the playoffs. I agree that the top six didn't score (but that's been a problem for awhile) and that Quick had a terrible stretch of games. I could also bring up that Jeff Carter can't win face-offs, so I don't understand why they keep letting him take them.

I also don't disagree that McBain/McNabb/Scuderi/Schenn should be part of a bottom pairing. But so should Gravel and Forbort right now, and from what we saw of them in their call-ups, there was little reason to think that they'd be a better bottom two. At most optimistic, it would have been a wash, and Darryl Sutter's not likely to play younger people he's less familiar with, so they wouldn't have been soaking up many minutes anyway.

I agree that Gravel should have played more in the regular season, but he didn't. To be fair to the team, it makes sense they tried different combinations of partnerships and placings to make the D they have work before calling up a kid from the AHL to play both for cap reasons and for Gravel's development.

Erhoff's struggles with the Kings made me sad to begin with, but even more so now that he's doing really well for my national team, which is obviously far from great, but still.

They played so well today, I was so proud. :')

It makes a certain amount of sense. There's even 3 Czechs on the Flyers roster, so they can work together to convince him. Whatever that entails.

Re: Fic Discussion - A place to lay your head

I agree with this. If they had even added another paragraph where once they're back in the car to leave Washington, Connor turns his phone back on, I would've been 100% satisfied. As it is, I'm about 95% satisfied with it.

It felt to me like maybe the "running away from your life" subplot was mostly resolved with the confirmation that the McEichel relationship wasn't just a summer roadtrip fling, but something that is real and that they both wanted to last and were willing to work for -- it gave Connor something solid to hold onto that wasn't just hockey and could be a buffer for his bad days (this could also be me identifying too much with Connor's situation here). But again, I just wish he had turned on his phone at the end. That's all I needed!

I didn't really get what you guys meant when someone said that Kent Parson was fanon!Oshie, but now I'm years deep in the Oshie tag, and wow you guys were Not Wrong.

Lol, wasn't there a Finnish conspiracy to get Jake Virtanen from the Canadians around the WJC? Happy to see "Take the precious from Canada, give them to Europe (with boners)" is a consistent meme mentality.

You and me both, nonnie. And I know, points aren't everything and he's not the best player in the entire world, but he also scored the most of them over a period of five years, ffs.

Re: What's Up With Your Team? - Playoffs Round 2

Hey, if Canada doesn't appreciate what it's got...

I don't remember the Finnish conspiracy. I mostly remember the comments after the fact about the Finnish team making Virtanen regret his decision, which was a very nice conversation. IIRC there was even a nice little detour about sex tears, which is always a crowd-pleaser.

They made me sad, too. He's had one of those careers where it feels unfair that he never got to win a cup.

(Was this a misfire, nonny?)

On one hand, I don't think I should want to know. On the other hand, I want all the details.

Re: Fic Discussion - A place to lay your head

From: (Anonymous)
I actually started to feel nervous for them in the second half of the fic when they were constantly holding hands lol. It was cute and I knew it wasn't that kind of fic but there was definitely tension for me because I worried that Connor was oblivious and not noticing people recognizing them. It's not like the Grand Canyon is an obscure tourist destination! There could totally have been somebody from Canada or a hockey state there that recognized them!

I would read the hell out of a fic about sad Jagr who secretly wants a relationship, but all the people just want to have sex with him once to say they did Jagr.

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Nah, I just read/skimmed two fics in a row from around 2011-2012 where the sole contribution of Oshie is that he broke Toews' heart? In college? and another few where it's just like, all broning all the time. Which to me, is the basis of all that is Kent Parson's character.

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Oh, makes sense. I thought you meant his tumblr tag, hence my confusion. I remember those fics vaguely. Especially the super laidback broning, which was a bit much for me even at the time.

Continues to bother me that my brain doesn't think Elliott looks like a goalie. He's currently filed somewhere between sitcom dad, and sitcom dad's best friend.

Sorry, dude. I think you're great. It's not you, it's me.

They really did, and that feeling when they tied it :') it was a beaut of goal, too.

Yessss, I cheered out loud alone in my living room!

I really, really hope they make it to the quarter finals because they deserve it imo, but that loss against France wasn't really helpful, lol.

Re: NHL Awards - Ted Lindsay

I cheered so loud on my balcony and if the neighbours heard, ooops sorry!!!

And it was a shootout loss against France, gosh how I hate the shootout, lol.
