Re: Worlds!

They'd overlap with baseball season if they did.

Re: General fandom discussion

Lovejoy leaving, Schultz's paycut (or him leaving too) and the rising cap should take care of Maatta's raise, really. If they can dump the Kunitz contract this summer they're golden.

The next big "crunches" coming are when Hornqvist's contract is up and Dumoulin's deal. Dumo could get something like Simon Despres did in Anaheim, though it will probably be lower because he'll never score a goal in his natural life. For that, we may have to sacrifice someone like Cole.

There's the question of re-signing Daley, unless Pouliot has stepped up as a suitable replacement. That goes for Bonino as well, but if he wants a huge payday there's a replacement for him too. That flurry of WBS NHL deals given to Wilson, Rust and Kuhnhackl are going to seem like godsends pretty soon.

NA Am I hallucinating or wasn't there an update that only full NMCs are protected and Fleury has a limited NMC? And NTCs are not protected at all.

DA

Yeah, but currently they lose playoff eyes and attention to the NBA playoffs, so I don't see much difference there.

Re: General fandom discussion

From: (Anonymous)
He's got a modified NTC plus a full NMC.

Re: Worlds!

From: (Anonymous)
I mean how much earlier? Even if they started preseason in August the finals wouldn't be done until mid-May.

Re: General fandom discussion

NA
not necessarily. The idea all along with the bolts was that Vasilevskiy would develop for a few years then probably take over once Bishop's contract ended. Bishop is really good but he's also 29, and his record in terms of staying healthy is obviously not great. I wouldn't be surprised if Yzerman offers Bishop. It will depend on how much money he wants.

Re: Worlds!

From: (Anonymous)
At least that would only affect some teams rather than all of them.

Re: Worlds!

From: (Anonymous)
That's what I was thinking about, yeah. Mid-May wouldn't be that bad.

Players would still miss Worlds though so whats the point?

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
What would need to be different for it to be a good soap opera?

Re: General fandom discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Actually I saw an article recently that said that because Fleury only has a partial NTC, he would not need to be protected. So the Pens could choose to protect Murray and expose Fleury if they wanted.

Re: General fandom discussion

From: (Anonymous)
His NTC has nothing to do with it; he has a full NMC. That's what will force him to be protected. Even if he had a full NTC, that still wouldn't force matters unless he has a NMC.

So this is an actual thing the Preds tweeted:

Ryan Ellis (CAN) topped Mattias Ekholm (SWE) at #IIHFWorlds today, but don't worry, they're still best friends...

I don't generaly enjoy reverse height difference, but yes please.

I wasn't able to watch the game but I really wanted to see them square off. Too bad the result was so lopsided.

Re: Things You Wouldn't Admit Unanon

I kind of fell in love with the Penguins.

Re: Things You Wouldn't Admit Unanon

From: (Anonymous)
Anybody in particular? Granted I am biased, but I think we have a lot of players with very lovable qualities. :)

Re: Things You Wouldn't Admit Unanon

From: (Anonymous)
I have a complicated relationship with the Penguins that is mostly based on utter loathing, but I really enjoy seeing them destroy my enemies.

Re: Things You Wouldn't Admit Unanon

From: (Anonymous)
I've realized I don't hate the Penguins as much as I'm tired of hearing about them, but I guess on the opposite side of that I could see people ending up liking them because of the constant exposure to them? No shame nonnie.

Hagelin (not sure if my spelling is correct), Sid, and your new coach. Idk when and how rooting for the enemy of my enemy turned into rooting for your guys, but your wins make me so happy. :/

Re: General fandom discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, exactly. No one expected that Malkin and Crosby would be worth 9.5 and 8.7 all the way through the end of their contracts. They have those contracts precisely with the plan to reward them for past performance -- pay them now (i.e. the time of the signing of the contract) a figure less than what they can get on the market and what their (at the time) current level of play is worth, overpay them when they're old and no longer good enough for the Pens to rely on them to contend. The problem with the Kane/Toews contracts is that they're higher, there are two of them, and Toews has never been anywhere near worth 10.5 mil. I tend to think a lot of Pens fans overrate Malkin because they like him so much (although I guess everyone is this way about their team's players) but to suggest that Toews is close to Malkin's caliber as a player -- let alone better -- is silly. Malkin has the ability to take a team producing nothing on his back and make them win -- and was doing it as recently as this season before his injury. Saying "a Malkin trade could benefit the Pens" is one thing, but a lot has been said in this thread about Malkin that goes beyond that.

Wait. Bishop's 29???? This has no bearing on this discussion except I thought he was like 22. Huh.

Hagelin's hair is so great. Especially now that it's flowing majestically behind him while he scores goals FOR us rather than against us. :D I usually scoff at hockey flow - I thought Letang's was just depressing and was glad when he cut it - but Hagelin's is something else again.

And I mean, really now. That is just a ridiculous amount of prettiness on one man.

(Is Tampa Bay your enemy? Or is this leftover from the WSH-PIT series?)

Anyway, welcome! :)

Yes lol. He kind of came out of nowhere a bit when he was traded to the Bolts but he'll be 30 in November.

I'm going to need someone to please teach me things about Dylan Larkin and Zach Werenski now.
