There's no room for the backup goalie on the San Jose visitor's bench? That's kind of weird.

Re: Game Day Thread May 19, 2016

From: (Anonymous)
I think Barclay's has the same problem, the visiting backup has to sit behind the glass.

San Jose only has 14 shots?!

Re: Game Day Thread May 19, 2016

From: (Anonymous)
The announcers said the visiting backup at San Jose has to sit down the tunnel/in the locker room, which seems like it'd be strange, just from a headspace point of view. Like the goalie would feel kind of removed from the game.

They seem to be getting better as the season goes on! They only finished in third but their play has been improving the deeper they go.

...which of course is just because the best the way the hockey gods can troll us fans is to have them lose the Cup in 7, obviously.

Don't you dare put that evil on them, nonny!

ayrt
Lol Sharks nonnie I didn't want to say anything too definitive either way out of fear of jinxing you guys. Getting better the further you go sounds promising though!

Look my teams only win when I DON'T believe in them -- 2014 was totally my fault because I got cocky. So I have to be as pessimistic as possible.

I think the Sharks are so jinxed there's nothing mere mortals can do to affect it. We're currently drawing luck from a freaking black cat.

Re: Game Day Thread May 19, 2016

From: (Anonymous)
...this explains a lot about why my dash is full of fans moaning about how horribly the Sharks are going to lose every game. Reverse-jinxing: way better than normal jinxing!

Jones wiggling his entire face, presumably trying to scratch his itchy face without removing his mask, is one of those things that is really tempting me to learn how to make gifs.

Also, I think this also applicable to the Wild?

Friend, I support you in your admirable mission, but I feel like using the queue might make this blog a more sustainable venture for you and your followers.

The Stars home backup sits in the tunnel at the AAC. I don't really know why, if it's a space thing or what.

I have definitely seen him sit on the bench...

I've already listed why I think Malkin is overrated.

Flower is the main reason the Pens didn't plummet to the bottom of the standings. Malkin was the best forward, sure, but he really only had a small stretch of games where he was great. No one played up to potential under MJ. Then of course, Malkin got injured again at a critical time when the Pens were still fighting for a playoff spot, and Crosby and co. were forced pick up the slack, per usual. Crosby finished 3rd in league scoring and led the league for the last fifty games or so, Letang was the highest scoring d-man in 2016, but Malkin and his five game stretch is "the reason" the Pens made the playoffs. Right. See how the bar is much lower for some players?

And I'll just ignore the Lemieux comparison.

lmao @ you bringing up tanger, who has been injured more often than geno across careers. did you know that if you look up stats for letang and karlsson in the last 5 years karlsson has more points thus proving that letang is a useless scrub who we should trade!!!!1

geno's not playing well right now. he's injured. sid's not playing too great either. the team can carry them for a while like they've carried the team in the past.

and in the meantime you can continue being so, so bitter. *pets you*

I only remembered you could see it in this video because I remember Kari trying not to laugh at him as he went past (which probably ended up being karma with Weber a few weeks later, lol):

I wince every time I see one of those comments. Even if a sequel to a fic I loved is all I want out of the world, I feel like begging an author for one is more often than not going to annoy them at best and possibly even ruin any chance of a sequel happening.

Re: General fandom discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Both of you are being totally insufferable and are distorting reality to shit on a player you don't like or defend your poor put upon fandom fave. To say that Malkin has only been "great" for five games this season is so totally ridiculous it isn't even worth arguing. Letang has definitely not been injured more than Malkin -- he has more games played than Malkin does since 2008-09 (the first season that Letang was consistently up in the NHL). Crosby has definitely been playing noticeably better than Malkin the last few games (very possibly due to his coming back early from injury). And you constantly making ad hominem attacks and talking condescendingly about how anyone who doesn't like Malkin must be so hateful and bitter and is just making you ~double-down on loving Geno!! totally undermines your point and is why everyone hates Pens fans.

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
I think that's an oxymoron

Re: General fandom discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Of course Malkin isn't playing well, he already used his three good months up for the season. No matter how many excuses you bring up, the truth is that the pens have played like a cup winning team all while Malkin has been either injured or a non-factor, his former linemates (Kessel, Hagelin, Hornqvist, ect.) have all looked better with other centers - forcing Malkin to play with the team rejects, and Nick Bonino has essentially replaced him as second line center. Really, it was smart of him to rush back so it didn't become even more apparent how unnecessary he is in this system. But yes, Geno is the reason and all that. Maybe he'll manage to scrape together some secondary assists on the PP or something.

Re: Game Day Thread May 19, 2016

From: (Anonymous)
It was definitely karma, but that's not the best example, tbh, because he's standing in the video. Yeah, the other Stars goalie sits in the tunnel sometimes, but it's not a "you have to" kind of thing. Or even most of the time.

Re: Hockey Articles/Media

The Sharks postgame interview was interesting to watch, at least to someone who usually doesn't bother watching this sort of thing:

https://www.nhl.com/sharks/video/postgame-hertl-jones-thornton/t-277437430/c-44010203

You have Hertl fidgeting constantly throughout various parts, Jones sitting ramrod straight but with his eyes moving like he's scanning the room for threats, and Thornton actually sitting like a normal human being. Is that how they all usually look?

Also, I really appreciated this exchange:
Q: "Are you surprised that this is the way you've continued to play at this stage of your career?"
Thornton: "No. No, I know I'm a great player."

He'd be lying if he said anything else!
