Re: Fandom Venting

This adds a new perspective to the combine/draft.

Does a guy know he's going to get traded when his tentacles start to change color?

Re: Ask Meme

From: (Anonymous)
A few that I can think of off the top of my head:

fuckyeahvladimirtarasenko
stlouismizzou (this also covers Mizzou and the Cardinals, in case those aren't your thing)
cparayko (posts gifs/other content)
jakeallen (also makes a lot of gifs)

Re: Fandom Venting

From: (Anonymous)
That would be even worse than finding out via twitter. Although I guess it wouldn't matter if you're getting traded to a team with colors that are the same/very close.

Huh. I'm surprised, but in a good way.

Yeah, those are a pretty crucial three games. Which, to be clear, shouldn't matter in doling out a suspension, but absolutely do seem to matter in DOPS suspension logic.

This is why this is a good hockey matchup. It's a coin flip! Both these teams can fuck it up.

Same, I thought 2 games would be the most they'd hand out! The repeat offender thing may have factored in, I suppose.

Or maybe a guy's tentacles not changing color is one of the signs that a trade isn't working out. Like there was hope that Trevor Daley's tentacles were at least starting to change shade from Victory Green to whatever that Hawks feather green is, but they were all just fooling themselves in retrospect given how quickly they changed to black and gold when he got traded.

Re: Fandom Venting

Oooh, I like that idea. There could even be some guys who stay with a team but their color never changes because they don't quite gel (or they do, but something else means they don't change, so angst and speculation ensues).

Thanks, nonnie! Mostly looking for content that isn't mixed in with a bunch of teams I dislike.

Can you imagine the internet conspiracies and speculations over Stamkos' tentacles and if they were Toronto Maple Leaf blue or still Tampa Bay Lightning blue?

I hope Stars fans don't take this the wrong way, but before I've even started worrying about the other team beating us my worry about the Blues Blues-ing it up has already gotten ahead of me. They're their own greatest enemy, like 7 out of 10 times at least.

There's been a lot of weird luck going on with the Blues too! For example, Elliott heating up down the stretch and staying hot is also definitely a huge part of the Blues getting this far. And, um, David Backes' shooting percentage in the playoffs is currently 30% and he's scored 2 very timely OT winners. (This one wasn't a matter of luck, but that Blackhawks one...)

Nonnie, this is the fic that meme deserves. Write it.

Ah, the struggle of liking a less popular team and trying to find either blogs that exclusively post your team or blogs that tag consistently enough for blacklisting to work. So fun.

Re: What's Up With Your Team? - Playoffs Round 2

I've always thought that winning the cup comes down at least 50% to puck luck so if the Blues are #blessed with crazy puck luck this year they might go far :)

but with the Stars sometimes it seems like not even luck. It's like when they win or do well it surprises even them because they're all just waiting for the wheels to come off at any second. The Blues and Stars do seem well matched that way, lol.

You're welcome! I haven't run across many blogs that are just Blues. I generally just follow a few choice blogs and check the tags a lot. I'm also a really lazy tumblr user and a total lurker, so it's likely that I'm missing some.

I'm a Pens fan, and I have a feeling they're going to give it to Duper to make up for last year's mess but I actually would be fine with Zucc winning it.

Re: NHL Awards - Masterton nominees

No, my point is more 'how is this year different from all other years?' for Jagr, not that his career would have to be over. Like, sure, give it to him because he's obviously dedicated to the game, but ma nishtana.

Or for just being Steve Downie - most egregious example I remember is him getting a penalty after Byfuglien took him out after Downie scored.

Re: NHL Awards - Masterton nominees

Last year there was serious thought that he might be done and was hanging on too long. He didn't do well in Jersey and while he had success in Florida after the trade it was a small sample size. He wasn't even put forward as the team nominee.

Re: What's Up With Your Team? - Playoffs Round 2

Yeah, they've gotten lucky at some key points this year, and Ells and Jake were also both fabulous when they needed to be during the season, and bailed the team out a few times when they were intent on doing their usual Blues thing. It's weird, though--I feel like all the injuries this year worked to our advantage, since Hitch's system is pretty grueling and half the players are usually gassed by the time they hit the playoffs, but most of them had at least some time off because of injury, so... yay injuries? I could also be totally off-base here, but this is what I want to believe.

Game 1 and the third period of this game were really horrible, but I think some of the not-good-streaks they've managed to break (Game 7 win, got out of the 1st round, beat the Hawks at the UC in the playoffs twice, won their first Round 2 game in 14 years, and so on) this year might be good for their confidence and the mental side of things, at least. I'm trying to stay cautiously optimistic. But yes, the fear is always there, lurking.

That being said, I think that this will be a really fun series, regardless of how it ends, since I really like watching both teams play.

Re: Fic Discussion - Deja vu

na It's funny, but the reason offsides in hockey was so easy for me to understand is because to my mind it's exactly like tagging up in baseball.

Re: NHL Awards - Masterton nominees

From: (Anonymous)
I know there's a push not to just vote for the worst injury, but this year I really think it should go to Zuccaerllo. I mean, he had to learn to talk again? That's just nuts.

Josi nice try but you're sticking out too much.

Re: What's Up With Your Team? - Playoffs Round 2

The narrative the team seems to want to push about horrible injury luck this season is that it's made the club gel more, bond, and be totally clingy bros - which I do believe to an extent. The adversity and the idea that '[they]'ve been through it all this year, it seems' as per Ells in the post-game interview definitely prepared them for playoffs pressure in a way even being bounced out in previous playoffs didn't.

Also it seems awful but I am somewhat 'yay injuries!' as well since the team at least seems entirely healthy recently and few teams in the playoffs can say that.

My cautious optimism wars with my cynic nature and on days without games it even wins! No expectations, but certain daydreams have crept up on me. It's a lovely feeling having hope in May.
