Re: Fic Discussion - hockeyexchange reveals Battery & Builder

I feels you on the Carter/Richards front, it's been a while since I read anything new with them that really hits all my buttons.

I do think Maatta's been dealing with some kind of lower-body issue for a good month or so. But that has zero to do with getting concussed because he got hit in the head.

I think what Trotz has been saying goes way beyond the usual "An unfortunate hit, trying to make a hockey play" kind of stuff that coaches usually say. If even your player agrees it was a bad hit, maybe you should stop blaming the victim for getting injured? It's pretty gross tbh.

It wasn't even an argument. It was just someone being insulting. If you don't respond to them, it forces them to actually making statements, possibly with evidence, if they want to engage with you.

On a different not, I rolled my eyes at the notification Maatta was out with an 'upper body injury.' He got hit in the damn head. I get not publicizing injury for fear of targeting, but he got hit in the damn head.

Panarin, Gostisbehere, McDavid

Earlier this year Rust (I think?) was out considerable time after we all watched him get hit in the hand with a puck. They called that an upper-body injury, too. :P

Fleury on the ice for warm ups. Appears to be backing up Murray, as Zatkoff isn't there.

I honestly think Gostisbehere will probably win to avoid the 'he was injured/he's not a rookie!' issues with McDavid and Panarin.

I was into it, right up until I got thrown out of the story because I was grumbling that Sam Morin is a defenceman!

Ghost! <3 I'm already pleased that he's among the finalists but of course that led to me being greedy and wanting him to win it now, lol.

Re: Fic Discussion

So egregious. Out of the really huge skaters I can think of... all of them are defensemen. Or John Scott, whose natural position is defense.

A plague on all their houses.

I feel a lil sad for Eichel. I hadn't realized I was so attached to him until I kept refreshing the app today hoping to see that he was nominated, lol. Awards are nonsense blah blah blah but to not even get nominated kind of blows when it might have worked out differently if he was in a different draft class.

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
There's one prospect for my team who looks deceptively large, and as a result I always think he's a defenseman.

Re: NHL Awards - Calder nominees

From: (Anonymous)
Aw. :( I knew it wasn't too likely, but I was really hoping Eichel would get in there.

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Yup. Forwards are forward-sized, then defensemen tend to be bigger, then the goalies are usually the hugest. Hockey teams as entities are heavy in the back end, wink wink. (Or tall in the back end, I guess, but that doesn't work as well.)

I'm so annoyed we're going to be arguing about Panarin's age and McDavid's ppg for another two months.

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
I read this one right away, and I wanted to love it- a long fic for Sid/Claude!!!- but the more I think on it I don't think I did. There were parts I did like- Sid in particular I thought was well done, the author didn't invent a million things to make him weird, he wasn't an angst basket, etc. And I loved how accepting he was about his own sexuality. But, totally biased as a Pens nonnie, the state of the team in 2022 really unsettled me. Tanger's future is the stuff of my deepest fears and nightmares, I didn't want to read it in a fic (especially, if I remember right, it wasn't really tagged for) It was super unclear to me when Geno left for Russia? At first I thought it'd been a season or two ago then when we see Sid's POV of the trade news it seems like it's happening right then. Very unclear.

Most importantly, though, I don't see their relationship working out at all. (Aside from not totally understanding why they like each other so much) Claude and his GF break up in this because he doesn't want to be a father. Yes, he loves his baby but he doesn't want to actively parent. Maybe he someday will, but even 3 years later in 2022 he doesn't seem to be too interested. Sid on the other hand wants 1,000 children. That doesn't seem like it will mix well into a serious relationship for two people looking to settle down.

Oh Jack :(
I had a feeling that this was going to be the outcome, but I'm still sad for him

Re: Fic Discussion

From: (Anonymous)
Yes, Giroux has clearly shown he doesn't want to parent at all, given his years of pseudo-parenting Briere's kids. Guess I'll give this one a pass.

Re: Fic Discussion

How big is he actually?

Re: NHL Awards - Calder nominees

From: (Anonymous)
I think Ghost should win because he had the biggest impact on his team. Yeah McDavid and Panarin scored a bunch, but take them off (as McDavid was for a big part anyways) the Oilers and Hawks don't or do make the playoffs anyways. If the Flyers hadn't had Ghost, they wouldn't have gotten in
