It's much more slowly paced than hockey - meditative, more focused on duels between hitter and pitcher - and there's like 4 levels (AAA, AA, high A and low A, plus rookie leagues and fall leagues) of minor leagues, so busting into the majors takes longer. I also think the contrast between the minors and the majors is greater than the AHL and the NHL, but that could be bias. IDK, there's some kind of baseball nostalgia/fatalism with it that I don't find in hockey. I imagine I feel about about baseball like Canadians feel about hockey, though.
