Threads on meme go in non-topical directions all the time. Meme would look drastically different if they didn't. There would be no Eyebrow Bracket if they didn't. I understand being annoyed by that particular comment (I did eyeroll a little tbh) but the "you can't talk about that here because this is MY thread!!!" attitude is silly.
