Journalistic ethics and community standards determine what's acceptable and how transgressions are dealt with, but they can't truly change the morals of people who are operating under its rules. Which is why checks exist in the first place! And it's also why, despite the surface difference in a journalist being able to double-down and a rule-breaking comment immediately getting screened, there isn't really any ground to say that something is so bad even this group of wankers wouldn't say it (which they definitely have on previous occassions)!
