Re: Fandom Venting

They should let both Lucic & Lewis go. I get that Lewis is Sutter's plop & go player that he can rely on to fill in on whatever line has someone out for injury in whatever forward position is open. But Gaborik can play either side of the ice and several of our depth wings are truthfully centers. I think we'll be okay. Frankly, I think his biggest contribution to the team was as the guy who made sure Doughty was constructively occupied and not getting into trouble, but now he's moved out. I know the players like him enough that he's won the players' award for the last five or six years in a row, but I don't think he's irreplaceable.

I wish people would stop thinking that the deal wasn't worth it for a year of Milan Lucic. As far as I'm concerned this deal is only worth it for a year of Milan Lucic. I think he worked out great and he stabilized the team and was a tremondous morale booster and worked excellently to replace Justin Williams-points wise. If we'd had another bad year, we might have started spiraling into Canucks territory or worse (we did have *three* players arrested, after all), so I'm very happy. That good year, of which he was key, was well worth what we paid for. The team is stabilized now. We don't need him any more. Especially when he's going to turn into the next Dustin Brown, and Dean & Darryl don't even seem to like the one they've already got.

Jones was going to be a sunk cost either way. The Sharks were going to offer sheet him. Although, in retrospect it would have been better to just let them. If they'd offer sheeted him for what they're paying him, and we'd let them take him, we would have gotten a first & a third. But from what little has come out, it sounds like the Bruins really wanted Jones, because they knew he'd be a good flippable piece, so I'm not sure if we could have talked them into someone else, tbh. And it sounds like the Bruins demanded Colin Miller too and I don't blame them, as he was a right-shooting offensive d, and clearly our best d.

If there would be one thing I would change, it would be the Sekera deal. Not that it happened, because if he hadn't gotten injured it might have worked out, but I'd change the fact that when the Canes asked for Forbort, the Kings didn't say "hell yeah," instead of offering up McKeown.

Anyway, they should definitely give some prospects a shot. I'm more concerned with them accurating figuring out which prospects those should be, because what management says in interviews (I don't watch Reign/Monarchs games) doesn't seem to jibe well with what happens when they get they up here. Gravel, for example, looked pretty solid in his cup of coffee & he almost didn't get a contract last year.

As for the goalie sitch, everyone seems to think they'll sign Budaj. I'm sad about it. I totally think the $1.2 mil they were paying Enroth is worth it for a decent back-up, but apparently the Kings want someone even cheaper. I'm sure Dean Lombardi will kick the tires on a few free agents just to see what's out there. I don't think that Quick should be playing that many games either, but in past years, Darryl Sutter's hand was forced by injury. I don't think he's had a year of mostly healthy!Quick before, so hopefully he'll be more prepared to work in the back-up this coming year.
