Day 1,000,000: I am so incredibly over coach's challenges.

I think it should be kept for goalie interference, but ditched for offside.

I don't even get how it was offside. My Twitter was all convinced even before the ref call, and here I am looking at the gif and I still don't get it. The puck goes in while he's still partway out.

Apparently it had something to do with a skate in the air? Or something? I have no fucking clue.

He lifted up his foot behind the blue line, which counts as being offsides for whatever reason.

What the hell? I'm not watching but that seems so arbitrary and besides the point. I know rules are rules for a reason blah blah blah but that kind of nitpicking is not what offsides what created to do.

Especially when his other foot is still squarely ON the blue line. It's not like he had one foot all the way in the zone.

Which is why everyone hates offsides calls, lol. Not to be one of those people who are like "It's ruining the game!!1!" but... ew.

Yeah, I didn't want to be one of THOSE people but I think if they're going to continue to allow challenges on that rule next season the rule or what can get challenged might have to be modified. It makes sense for football, which is an inches game, but hockey is too fast to get bogged down with that kind of shit tbqh.

The trailing skate has to be on the ice. Yes, it's dumb and will hopefully be changed.

I'm over it because it requires a really technical reading of the rule, which is not how it's actually called during game play.

Goalie interference may actually be worse, though, since no one really seems to know how it's being called.

Yeah, the offsides rule gets applied in a really ticky-tacky way that violates the spirit of the game, imo. Whereas the goaltender interference challenge is just them reading off a magic 8-ball.

The problem with goalie interference is that nobody really knows what's going on, but before the challenge was there, there were sometimes goals with some really damn egregious goalie interference. I'm not sure what the solution is.
