http://archiveofourown.org/works/7964605 - "I Wanna Know What You're Thinking," by Milionking.

I'm a little surprised it took fandom this long to write about Alex Galchenyuk's girlfriend hitting him, but this just seems super-gross. I have not actually read it yet, but the author is pretty clear in the notes about the fact that they're dramatizing that real-life event (in the service of a Gally Squared fic).

I would love to ask the title question of the author, tbh.

+1

Though I blacklisted the author immediately after reading the summary, so I will never get an opportunity to ask. I don't consider it a big loss.

Judging by their profile they are a Gally squared tin-hatter. It is very poorly written, nonsensical garbage.

Underrated Fic Writers

We all know the big names, but tell us about the fic writer out there that you love that doesn't seem to get that much love.

I just found out a person I really (mostly irrationally) dislike from a previous fandom is now involved in hockey fandom - of course, it's the same team I follow. Her fucking posts are showing up on my dash. God fucking damn it.

I don't know how underrated they are or aren't, but I've been liking inlovewithnight recently.

I blacklisted this author after I read three of their fics. I tried to give them a chance, but I gave up. So this is what they're doing now?

The writing is so OTT bad in the best way that I could have enjoyed it if the subject matter weren't so gross :(

I don't know if this qualifies as venting, but does anyone else feel like the migration over to tumblr has been a horrible thing for fandoms? Especially smaller fandoms like hockey rpf? It seems like fandom has really stagnated there.

It doesn't seem like there's any way to really interact with people, and there's no sense of community. There's no way to have discussion. Everything is just reblogging gifs and pictures that someone reblogged from someone who reblogged them from someone else. If people even say anything about the pictures/gifs, it's in their tags where no one will see it.

Honestly, I think hockey rpf is, by nature, a fragmented fandom, so it would be pretty hard to have a strong sense of being a community in general. I don't know if tumblr has made that better or worse. I also can't recall ever feeling like a part of some larger community in fandom on LJ -- I think it was more finding your bubble of like-minded people and ignoring people who fandomed differently. Sports fandom proper probably finds it easier to create a community feeling.

Zero percent vent on my part this far, but I feel like it could go that way, soooo...

What are we feeling about imzy, meme? Any FFA nonnies hanging out there? Anyone in any of the hockey communities, none of which I can remember the name of at the moment?

For the record, all content on imzy is currently "locked" to the general public, though there are also actual private spaces, because they're still in closed beta, but invites seem plentiful in fandom so it's more like locked to ao3, not locked LJ comm or whatev.

I'm not there at all yet, because I've learned I only have it in me to be active on one platform at a time, and from what I understand it's all pretty small and slow right now. I suppose I could snag an invite just to camp out on a username, etc., but haven't felt sufficiently motivated yet.

I made an account and joined the FFA page(? Comm? ?) but the whole thing looks sort of terrible right now and there's not much there and the admins annoy me.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
I check it maybe once a day but nothing much seems to be happening there that interests me yet. I like that individuals can basically make a community for themselves and use it like a personal lj, though. I don't have a twitter and most people seem to only reblog pictures on tumblr, so anything that encourages more longform writing (with comments!!) is a good idea in my book.

Re: Fandom Venting

It could be good, for discussion and things.
The hockey comms are https://www.imzy.com/hockeyhockeyhockey (no PKane squee)
https://www.imzy.com/hockeyfandom (PKane allowed)

I can only comment on the first and its a little quiet yet, but I think when there is more to talk about it will get busier.

There is also https://www.imzy.com/hockey_rpf_prompts which could be fun.

Ayrt - ooh, I'd missed the prompt one. I've been lax on the sin bin for like two years, but I do like the minimal bit of anon and/or named continuity on imzy, and that might be enough to get me hooked in.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I only found the prompt one when I was looking for the other hockey one.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
That's about the only thing about Imzy that's intrigued me! I can't do the sin bin any more for Reasons but I do miss prompting/responding to prompts. I'll have to track down an invite now. Is it anon prompting/filling?

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-06 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't seem to be, but there is an option to set up an identity just for a specific comm but i think it links to your profile.(I don't totally understand how IMZY works so I could be wrong about that.)

I feel like you're about four or five years late to be wanting to discuss this, because I can remember having this discussion with people as MCU fandom was forming.

The LJ-type of fandom was already disappearing before tumblr came on the scene. Things were never the same after Strikethrough (2007, IIRC), and while some fandoms limped along for another few years, I think if anything the existence of tumblr and a few other spaces like FFA and AO3 have helped preserve a still extant fannish continuum that's still recognizable to me. Unlike the fandom a 13-year old in my life participates in where she's never heard of DW or AO3 and watches LP videos on YouTube, reads septicplier fic on Quotev and posts FNaF memes on Instagram of all places (if you think Tumblr is bad, at least reblogging is a thing there).

While I do agree that having a conversation is much harder on tumblr than on LJ, I think that's why tumblr is thriving now. It's what people want. Older people don't have the time for more than that and younger people aren't interested. They don't want to do anything they can't do from a phone. I may not like Twitter fic, for example. But if Twitter didn't exist, those people wouldn't be waiting and gathering their sentences in one document and waiting to post it at all once. They'd be posting it piecemeal somewhere else or not writing at all.

Huh. I mean, anonymity *is* pretty nice for prompting in general, both so you can prompt whatever weird shit's floating around in your brain without having to cop to it right away and to avoid popularity contests (not that I'd win one). I might look out for the next invite code thread and at least take a look, though.

Yes, I know what you mean, I think I am way less likely to ask for tentacle porn logged in. And that pastry chef AU, both are pretty embarrassing in different ways.

Yes! Frankly, the only thing more embarrassing than my porny prompts are my non-porny ones.

I really dislike Imzy aesthetically and in terms of user-friendliness and when I go there I end up feeling frustrated and vaguely irritated. It's in beta so maybe they will iron out those issues with time, but as of right now I can't see myself using it regularly.
