Oh yeah, to add to what other people have said: whatever you do, DON'T ENGAGE, especially as yourself. That is a terrible position to put yourself in - a bunch of anons vs one unanon author. Just. Don't do it.

I read it, but I don't respond in the thread.

I had one of my stories get some pretty extensive discussion here a while back, with very mixed reviews ranging from "this is the best thing ever" to "this is horrible and I had to nope out of it/I read the whole thing and am mad that I won't get those minutes of my life back."

In between, there was quite a bit of "I liked it except for This One Thing" going on, with a lot of different One Things, and that gave me more to think about than "this is the best"/"this is the worst" comments.

"This One Thing" being a specific trope that IMO was important to the fic but a lot of people seemed to think it would be better without? Sorrynotsorry, if you don't like that trope this isn't the fic for you.

"This One Thing" being a characterization issue my betas pointed out to me, I rewrote until they told me it was fixed, and some people here still were bothered by? I'm keeping it in mind but I'm not sure I could have told the story I was trying to tell while "fixing" this problem to the nonnie-critics' satisfaction. I didn't respond at the time but I still grumble about it when related things come up. That's the one criticism that really bothered me.

"This One Thing" being an aspect of the ending that felt a little too tacked on to tie up loose ends? I agree, I wasn't 100% sold on that part either and did a bad job of telling-not-showing, I'll try to do better next time, and I have a fic in progress that is trying to turn the subplot I failed to do justice to into its own central story.

"This One Thing" being a specific complaint about my writing style that I've heard before in other contexts and will no doubt hear again? I'm working on it, but it's a flaw of mine that I don't know if I can get rid of completely. Maybe I'll poke my betas into looking for it more?

On the positive side, there was one particular compliment this fic got that I go back and re-read every time I fall into "OMG I CANNOT WRITE MY WAY OUT OF A WET PAPER BAG!" sadness. It meant a lot and let me know I did something very right that I was trying to do.

First I hid my eyes in shame, then later I was flattered at the extra attention.

Meme doesn't seem to discuss that much fic nowadays. More likely if it's from an exchange, it's terrible in an OTT or unusual way, or it was good but there was one part it that was annoying or nagging in a have to get off your chest way.

I was thinking the exact same thing and wondering just how good Tim Horton's insurance policy is. It looked like they had some type of rope that I'm assuming was a safety precaution, but still an interesting decision to have him climb that ladder...

I'm really loving how Giroux called Crosby "a great guy." These two playing on the same team is probably the thing about the World Cup that I'm most looking forward to.

Update no one asked for: I broke the first 5k! Which covers the opening and closing scenes! And I'm still excited to write the rest of it! Huzzah!

Agreed on all counts, nonny. God I want Galchenyuk to be traded.

I lowkey ship Jacob Trouba/Galchenyuk after I read some fic a while back. Maybe they'll be traded to the same team.

Yes, I know. Anon I was talking to mentioned not really getting the OOC etc complaints and so I talked about the only one that I had (back when I read the pairing). I meant to use past tense but mistakenly used present tense. I'm not trying to start or rehash any old wank.

There is literally nothing to squabble about, so I don't know what you're even trying to start.

Excellent work, nonny! Good luck from here on out.

I totally would too. Or raised by bears. Moose. Whatever.

I adore Kiro because he amuses me (plus automatic + 1 for cat dude). I have fond pseudo-dad feelings towards Dave and Oleg (the whole "David and Oleg are Caps together" thing made me happy.)

I would totally read actual Carmen/Sylvie. Or actual Sven/Leon/Yvette, that keeps getting teased too.

This is nowhere near the worst because it's just badfic, but http://archiveofourown.org/works/7826497 has unexpected (and completely untagged) dub-con. Dead dove behavior on my part (the author's one of those "non-sexual d/s Wings" people) and I'm pretty sure I was turnt or I probably would have thought better of clicking on it.

But fuck, I did NOT expect to be all "Back the fuck OFF Connor, THall *said* no, BONERS ARE NOT CONSENT" especially in a "rookies serve vets sometimes sexually" verse (which isn't entirely obvious from the tagging and summary either).

I'm trying to decide if it's worth commenting to ask for a dub-con tag or notes (for sure I do not want to do it as my ao3 persona, and I don't have an ao3 sock).

You are confusing them. They aren't cofounders. Patrick is a founder, along with two other guys, and is no longer involved in the day-to-day. Brian Burke is not a founder, but is on the YCP advisory board.

Just because YCP is what is is because of the Burkes doesn't justify the Burkes holding onto those positions in perpetuity. It might be true that the Burkes have more authority and are more likely to be listened to by NHL players, but if they're going to feed the players this apolitical, toothless, watered down version of what LGBTQ+ inclusivity looks like, they're doing harm as well as good. If the Burkes' only upside is that they made the message more palatable... idk, I don't want to say that that isn't valuable or there isn't a role for that, but that doesn't justify YCP's current problems. White people are way more receptive to learning about racism from white people, but that doesn't justify white people leading anti-racist movements. YCP is the organization that was formed, but we can want YCP and the league to do and be better, and eventually they will have to, for real change to happen.

This is the first thing the Habs have done in forever that amused me, go clueless PR. (I've been salty since they threw Galchenyuk under the bus, of COURSE PK, and signing Shaw didn't help especially since they apparently think on-ice slurs are worth 6x6 which not so much.)

Seriously, did no one learn from #AskNeal?

Their baby is adorable.

(Also, I now want fic involving Stamkos and nail polish somehow.)

I read it, and I found it very useful, it really helped me clarify the things which hadn't quite worked. I wanted to post and say thanks, but I figured that would be very awkward.

I like it when people talk about something I wrote unprompted so I figure I have to be ready to deal if people don't like something I wrote.

If you still need someone, it's been a while since I beta'ed anything but I'd be willing. (I do great SPAG and decent phrasing/flow, but I used to make my beta write half my scene transitions and endings. Plus not a Rangers nonnie.)

Someone who has a very similar online handle to mine keeps popping up everywhere I go, spouting things I definitely don't agree with. It's gotten to the point where I want to change my handle, just so when I come across their comments/writing, I don't have that split section reaction of "hey, that's....not me. That is really not me at all."

It's petty, it's stupid, and it's definitely taking up too much mental real estate. But I had that handle first. Go blacken someone else's (nonexistent) name.
