This is the twenty-sixth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

THE RULES

Same statement as before because Sid/Nate have at least reality to support them. Which feel threatening to people who hard core ship Sid/Geno.

Some people are going to say this ship is boring. But too much hate for a suppose boring ship seem silly.

I feel like you missed the essential part where that's in comparison to Claude. What do you think makes Nate different from Claude if it's not the storyline then?

I don't see, if your thesis is that people hate Sid/Nate because it splits up their OTP, why that reason should suddenly go away because of the "enemies to lovers" storyline. There have been several hypotheses in this thread about why, in particular, people dislike Sid/Nate and not other Sid/non-Geno pairings. Obviously people are also upset about their OTP being split up but that clearly doesn't tell the whole story here.

I don't know what thesis you are talking about. Someone raised the point that Sid/Nate is hated in a way that Sid/Claude isn't. Do you have a suggestion for how Nate is different from Claude (or vice versa) or do you just want to tell people they are wrong and offer up no suggestions of your own?

i know right, like part me wants to be like maybe Hall's personality overpowered McDavid's (or whatever that was implying) because it was McDavid's first season and he was new to the team and then was injured, like maybe give him a little adjustment period, let him have a year or two to see how an NHL locker room works before making him lead one?

It's not that crazy of an opinion, even if it's not that easy to argue, either. Murray has the smallest regular season NHL sample size of the three, playing behind a team that was not only very good, but particularly good about the kind of shots they let past to their G. It's almost impossible to make judgments on sample sizes like that. That goes for the others as well, but as least their samples are larger (and Hellebuyck much less sheltered).

Oh, but nonnie, McDavid has been preparing for this since he was 10 years old!!! Every single day he stood in front of a mirror and practiced answering questions without actually saying anything, that's how we know he's Ready for Anything and a True Leader. He is immune to any pressure, because his whole life everybody told him that one day he'd be the 19 year old captain of a team that hasn't made the playoffs in 10 years!!!

(or at least that's what Oilers fans on Reddit are telling me)

I'm not the one to talk to about Taylor Hall. Because goodbye and good riddance, good luck on your hockey journey Taylor Hall, don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.

But maybe RNH or Ebs could be the responsible one for a couple of years?? That'd be ok with me. And I know probably you don't want to strip someone of the C but. He's going to be the youngest captain ever. And I just don't know why we have to stack that on along with all his other expectations.

I'm pretty sure people who hate the juggernaut being split up will hate the splitting up even if it's coming from a NNF.

I assumed this was you, but maybe I'm wrong. This whole subthread of a subthread has been people (including me) proposing and discussing reasons they think Sid/Nate is particularly hated, it's not my job to summarize all that for you.

These announcers are amazing, imo. Informative, funny, not too biased I always think Buccigross is an asshole on twitter but I like him as an announcer.

I have a few theories on this. One is what the other nonny said, which is that Sid/Nate has way more of a basis in reality than Sid/Geno and is therefore more threatening so there's resentment/jealousy. Sid and Nate have a lot of off-ice footage and promo together, more than Sid and Geno have ever had.

The other is that the oflights Sid/Nate content and the way she talks about them seems really Nate focused, and I don't think enough people care about him for that to be the hook. She seemed to shift her focus from Sid to Nate (and other people in his world like Barrie, Drouin and Landeskog) and that's a tough draw for Penguins fans who care about Penguins only, which was a lot of her audience. There aren't enough Avs fans to make up that difference, especially Avs fans who care about Sid.

As the anon who asked the question, I wasn't necessarily judging the opinion, I wanted to clarify cause nonny wasn't using names.

I was surprised to hear (cant remember where) but apparently months ago, before playoffs/Cup, Chiarelli highlighted Murray when asked about goalies for Team Nth America.

I assume you mean basis in reality as the same thing as them having a lot of off-ice footage together, because the idea of either pairing having an actual basis in reality is pretty far out there.

Lol, I'm a Bruins nonnie and I honestly hate Chiarelli so much (thanks for the cup, now fuck off) that I'd be cool with them getting stuck in "doing better but not actually winning anything" purgatory forever.

I think Russia/Czech Republic and Sweden/Finland both had historic rivalries, but these teams don't have that.
