Re: Random Hockey Stuff

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
So I was watching WAGs on E!, which is as trashy as I wish Hockey Wives is, and this one girl (Natalie) was talking about how she doesn't date hockey players because, "When they're in junior hockey, their coaches go out and get girls for them to run trains on." So. That's a very universal rumor.

(Barbie Blank is on it, FWIW).

Yeah, no, that's not a tiny mistake.

Not strictly this fandom, but ARGH. I desperately need there to be a platform that replaces tumblr. I went to visit my dash today, and got auto-play audio! That is ridiculous. Apparently, the only way around it is to disable your ad-blocker and then enable the anti-capitalism extension on Xkit.

Marc Methot/Derek Brassard like each other.

On your own dash? Evil. Tumblr is evil.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. :| It was one thing when people were just purposefully putting their music on their own blogs. But my dashboard! I'm one of those people who likes leaving it open in a tab and just refreshing every once in awhile. I had to endure horrible commercial jingles for like 5 minutes while I fiddled with xkit settings until I managed to fix it by disabling ublock. Now I just wait for the other shoe to drop and for tumblr to break the xkit's audio blocker.

If you're on Chrome, you can right-click the tab to mute it. It's worked for me.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, thanks anon! I don't know how I missed that option before. Pre-emptively muting my tumblr tab will be the way to go in the future then.

There are also a number of disable autoplay extensions available for Chrome.

Firefox also the mute option and has an option to disable autoplay in about:config.

Autoplay is the devil, no matter what site you're on.

Maybe that anon interpreted what you said as disappointment that he chose to join the Blackhawks organisation instead of just disappointment that he signed elsewhere? Which seems like an odd thing to read into that statement but I can't explain that bizarre thread otherwise.

pretty much + 1 to everything, including liking their character development and being surprised by the leveling up happening this soon.

i've actually been enjoying mind_tent's "superstition" series (oc rookies get drunk-married in vegas and stay married), but i strongly suspect the narrator is an acquired taste because he reminds me some of marc in ycmal so this is DEFINITELY a ymmv rec. there are some hilarious moments (elvis has to turn their snap-backs around for their wedding kiss, that was priceless).

cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
I'm super late to this, but i've been missing cwm's fics so much lately. They used to be my comfort read fics and I'm kicking myself that I didn't download them. It would mean so much if anyone could send me copies of any of them (particularly Blue Lines, Seafoam, omega!Sid and the mythology au).

My email is hockey_socks[at]outlook[dot]com

Thank you!

Agreed with all of this. Plus, it looks like their lack of statistical understanding is being carried over to the QoC model they're proposing as a "solution" to this problem, where they've presupposed that QoC matters in the parameters of their model before using that model to produce results suggesting that it does. They also seem to not know the difference between qualitative and quantitative, as they seemed to think their separation of players based on quality is number based (when their whole rationale for the separation is the flawed nature of the numbers). This (very long) thread sums it up well: https://mobile.twitter.com/IneffectiveMath/status/755193498727514112. Like you said, they're not necessarily wrong, but their methods render their results practically meaningless. Here's their model: http://becauseoilers.blogspot.jp/2016/07/woodmoney-new-quality-of-competition.html?m=1.

Not to be difficult but Cheese did ask that the works not be shared publicly or otherwise. They were deleted for a reason.

ikr it's been, what, a year? get over it.

Re: cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think somebody asking that their fic not be distributed has an expiration date, personally.

Re: cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
This hasn't exactly stopped anyone from sharing fic at any point in the past.

Someone asked for a fic to be privately emailed! The horror!

Re: cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"ikr" makes me think they dislike OP's request, not that they're dismissing cwm's right to not have her fic shared.

Personally I think no one has that right. If you put it out there, it's out. You don't have copyright over it.

Re: cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't disagree with you, I just thought it was silly to suggest that the amount of time since the request could make a difference. She meant it then and she probably still means it now. Whether or not she has a right to make that request in the first place is a different story.

Re: cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think they were suggesting that it makes a difference in terms of sharing it. They were saying people should be over cwm's fic by now.

I've seen that sentiment before on meme and it's pretty ridiculous.

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

If I can't wish for the Pens to repeat again, then I just want everyone to be healthy. And Geno to have a great year, and Pou to get a chance. And for Flower to maintain his regular season form all the way to playoffs.

For other teams, I'd like the Stars to get a goalie, I really do like them.

Re: cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You think it's ridiculous that people still pine for cwm or ridiculous that people think the pining should be over based on time.

Because I for one think the circumstances of what happened are tinting people's memory of how good a writer cwm actually was and also, it has been long enough that I'm sick of hearing about it.

Re: cwm's fic

(Anonymous) 2016-07-19 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty much if the opinion that once you've posted something on the Internet you've lost control of how it is distributed.

NA

I didn't care for cwm's fic (I don't think I ever managed to finish one of them), but some of my favorite rereads in old fandoms, ones I have saved to my kindle and treat like old friends, are fics that I would, if pressed, admit are not actually really very good. In fact some of them are really not good at all. Others are good in some ways but have so many goddamn issues I wouldn't be able to rec them without a whole shitton of caveats attached (I may or may not have both HP's The Sacrifices Arc and AtLA's Embers on there, which, woo boy).

It's like the fact that I still have a shelf full of old Mercedes Lackey and Anne McCaffrey books. Some of it's nostalgia, but a lot of it's just the fact that it's not always the stuff that's actually good that sticks in your head and you're still thinking about years later. In fact, frequently, it's mostly just the stuff that hit your id in just the right spot.
