That doesn't change the fact that you were posing a "gotcha!" question as if it had no answer you could think of, while the entire conversation that you intervened in was in fact about answering that very question? And then accused me of not being relevant to your comment, when you're the one who started arguing with me and then got snarky when I defended my position? Also, you're the one who kept pressing for me to answer lmao.

Actually, maybe that does explain some of the hatred of Crosby/MacKinnon. People don't want to read about Crosby being a skeevy perve.

Or at least, not that *that* kind of skeevy perve.

They're obviously all really good, but they don't seem to be playing with a ton of cohesion yet. They look a bit disorganized.

If it were written as him being a skeevy perve, I would probably read it.

I'd love to read this.

As the person who chimed in with the Nick/Miriah comparison I honestly didn't know there was tons of hate for Sid/Nate. It's just always been a little too hero worshipy for me. Also I'll be shipping Nate/Jo otp4ever so there can be no one else.

As anecdata, I got into hockey via an S/G rec, which led me to read all the other S/G fic. If there hadn't been that bulk of S/G fic to read and the activity in the tag to watch out for, I don't think I'd have stuck around long enough to get invested. Definitely reading an S/G fic would not then have led me to read a random Stars pairing, for example. I'm pretty sure that's the case for a lot of people.

I wonder how Zuccarello and Hansen decided who got 36.

He's so good. I'm totally biased because Oilers. But I seriously just love him to pieces.

I feel like we have this conversation any time someone brings up Sid/Nate, but I will say it again: I think a lot of people just aren't interested in Nate, specifically. I have a million and one Sid pairings I like. Sid/Nate just isn't one of them. If you want reasons, there's the significant age difference plus the fact that I just don't find Mackinnon attractive plus no relationship dynamics that interest me. And other people speaking up have said the same in the past.

Oflights might be a little different than most just because she was one of the most prolific S/G authors for a long time, but in general when I've seen S/G authors write other pairings involving one or the other character, nobody's given them that much grief. Nobody got pissed (that I know of?) when thehoyden wrote Sid/Jack for an exchange last year, for example.

God, stop talking about Patrick Kane!!! Ugh.

I wanted to know the answer of the person I was replying to, not the general thrust of the entire conversation. Which was no answer anyway — so far as I can tell, the only person who has commented on the difference between Nate and Claude, which I assume is you since you said you gave your position elsewhere, has said that they don't have an explanation because they can't peer into people's brains. So I guess you really just did want to tell other people they were wrong.

Fuck right off, ESPN.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
That explains why people are indifferent to Sid/Nate, which frankly, doesn't need a lot of explanation, it's not a pairing that I would ever have expected to become popular anyways (whereas other ones, I wonder why they didn't take off). Also, I don't think any other popular S/G authors who've written other pairings have given indications that they won't write S/G anymore (or don't even care about the pairing and/or Geno, fans seem really worked up about not just the fic output but oflights' opinions/investments). It's always been obvious that S/G is still thehoyden's main pairing, and same with others I can think of.

If it's going to be longer than like 1k, then I need some meat to go with it, some kind of emotional arc that makes me feel things that in turn make me appreciate the fluff.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think there are tons of hate. I think there's a few people who are sensitive to any hate. I mean, I don't think it's any worse than the people who say they can't stand the Two Gallys ship, for example.

I am the person who made that comment, and that was the last comment I made on the topic and the last one (before this one) I am likely to make. So you can stop arguing over which one of you was me whenever convenient.

Um, no. The thread is full of people who have offered reasons why they think people don't like Sid/Nate in particular. You singled out the comment (not me) of someone who said they can't think of a particular reason. It's not my fault you can't follow the thrust of the conversation. You're the one making personal digs because I disagreed with what you said, but ok, sure.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have any strong feelings about MacKinnon or either of the Gallys, but I don't really get that comparison. People who don't like the Gallys like Galchenyuk and dislike Gallagher, and even for someone who's indifferent to both of them, it's pretty obvious why other people would feel that way.

I just thought I'd put an end to "I ASSUME THAT WAS YOUR COMMENT" because I had that power and I've seen at least a third of Marvel's Spider-Man movies.
