#26 — Vanek! with a Jurco

This is the twenty-sixth post of Deke Dangle RPF Anon, a community for all your ice hockey anon meme needs.

I doubt Drouin'll be starting on the top line again, tbqh. There's a reason he's never had chemistry with Stamkos, despite being drafted to play on his wing as a replacement MSL.

I don't really know why they're delaying the inevitable lol. Drouin and MacKinnon worked so well in juniors because Drouin is a playmaker and MacKinnon is a straight line shooter. The two of them annihilated junior teams together, I don't understand getting cute about this.

I think sometimes it seems like there is more hate for Nate/Sid because they interact more so there are more opportunities for it to be expressed, and the Oflights fic was posted more recently so it's fresher in peoples memories.

Worse Corsi than Jones, too.

The ice time distribution is kind of ridiculous. The top line got a ton and produced three shots on goal and a post. Eichel and Gaudreau had 7 shots between them, and Eichel and MacKinnon tied for the team lead with four. I've seen differing numbers for possession, but the top two lines are clustered in the 50s.

At this point I think McDavid could sit in the room completely silent like a lump on a log and Chia and McLellan would be look at that leadership tho

I think they're going to swap Gaudreau and Drouin first and seriously, just do the thing, you have years of proof for the thing.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if sitting silently in a room waiting to play hockey isn't legit their idea of a good leader.

It's bitten, and if it's in narration should be corrected. However, since it's dialogue, it's probably fine, since a lot of people speak ungrammatically when they are just talking.

I predicted McDavid and Drouin wouldn't be a great match and I feel vindicated lol. Gaudreau and McDavid should be better but seriously, MacKinnon put on a show tonight without Drouin. In the wise words of Shia Labeouf, just do it.

Does anyone else have pairings they really liked, but then one of the players got traded, and people nearly stopped writing fic about them together? For example, it seems like this might be happening to Tyler Bozak/Phil Kessel, which makes me sad, because I really like that ship. Has this happened/is this happening to any other pairings that you like?

Honestly, scratch Trochek if Miller is okay, put Drouin with Mackinnon like they should have from literally the first practice, and play Larkin somewhere. I thought Gaudreau-Eichel-Saad did well enough that they could stay together, but Saad on the top line and Larkin on the second would be fine.

And maybe even out the ice time among forwards some more.

Giroux/Briere? Martin/Neal? Subban/Price maybe in the future? Happens a lot I think. That's the nature of the beast.

Martin/Neal definitely, but Giroux/Briere still gets fic. I wonder what will happen if/when Briere works for Philly's front office.

Trading someone for having a "big personality" gets you Subban-for-Weber levels of bad trades. (PK, I hope Nashville lets you have all the "personality issues" your heart desires and you get a ring out of this.)

I have nothing against McDavid, but dude is already dealing with being "the Next One". I think maybe an A for the 2017-2018 season is a better idea than insta-Oilers C. Saad should definitely have gotten an A for Team Kidlets.

I've pretty much accepted at this point that any non-juggernaut Hawks pairing is eventually going to break my heart, given the way they make trades.

tywau, but i feel like hockey fandom's forgotten that not all personality issues have to do with being non-conforming or not following the party line. i have colleagues that i hate and it has nothing to do with me being too narrow-minded to accept them and everything with them being entitled brats. from what i've heard about taylor hall (which may all be propaganda but who knows), he was a downer in that locker room, and i can't fault the oilers for trying to get rid of that to see what it gets them.

All I want is for the final to not be one of Canada/USA, Canada/North America, or USA/North America and therefore ruin the NHL's dreams.

Come on, give me Sweden/Europe, or something. Make the NHL's publicity boner deflate.

This game felt like Team Europe couldn't be bothered lol, but I'd love that.

Or everyone could play really badly and make it a mess. I just want the NHL to realise how transparent their cash grab is.
