OP

Thanks, nonnie! I briefly skimmed the meme earlier and didn't see any mention of it (but it's easy to miss something when there's 3,000+ comments). I'm fairly new to the meme, so if anyone has good tips for how easily find info that's been posted in comments to threads, that would be greatly appreciated.

It's more knowing where people post certain things. Player injuries are usually in What's Up With Your Team threads.

Awesome. Thanks!

There's also a World Cup thread, where people are generally discussing news etc.

Isn't Babcock the Canada coach, though?

AYRT - It can be easy to miss things I tend to use flat view and look at the most recent comments so it's easier to see what has been posted since I was last here. I think it was mentioned in the WCoH thread.

Yes, you are right. Mclellen is North America isn't he?

Benn's face is shaped in a blocky rounded shape anyway, so the funko-ization works. Also, the severe hair part helps.

I never would have thought to use flat view. It does make it much easier to see recent comments. Thanks! :)

I know the NHL prefers this tournament because everyone's insured and they're making money off it but tbh I kind of think there's a greater chance of injury here than in the Olympics, incidents like Tavares aside, because the sample size here is smaller and they're playing against more NHL people than they normally would in the Olympics (other than the US and Canada, which are givens) so more people are playing with an edge.

That's good to know - I feel super old and crotchety when I say one of the reasons I asked meme about it is because I'm not entirely sure how to read it?? Tumblr seems like not the best platform for starting at the beginning.

There's another linked tumblr that seems to be more of an archive of "everything" that I think I'm going to try.

Thanks!! Cute and light is what I'm hoping for - although I think you may be right that there isn't as much there as I had hoped. I've mostly been reading stuff I've already read because enough of it is in my brain that I don't have to think much (I have no idea if that makes sense. Sorry)

If nothing else after I'm done I'll understand what meme is talking about when it comes up!

For a slower meme like this, I honestly find flat meme is the best way to follow it. I just keep it open in a pinned tab, refresh when I happen to think about it, and read any new stuff that's shown up. It's rarely more than a page or two.

but seeing as this whole tournament is organised by the NHL for NHL interests, it pretty much is a private interest thing, right?

For me this is a difficult line to try to draw because isn't every national tournament some kind of private interest thing when it comes down to it? It's not like the IOC runs the Olympics out of anything but self-interest even though people care more about that tournament. Mainly I'm not sure if that popularity somehow changes how it should be described from the organizing perspective.

This Sunday? I'm not doing the exchange, so I don't know the schedule.

I'm afraid I don't have a sock. If you have one, post it here and we can get contact info that way?

It's going to be on Oct 2nd this year. The lightning are holding a womens/girls hockey clinic again. I went last year and had an awesome time.

interview in French with Pierre-Edouard Bellemare

They talk about him being the least popular Flyer on twitter (I love his "C'est pas français, ça!") and he tries poutine for the first time.

Yeah, fics are due next Tuesday, so I was hoping to get it done by this Sunday. But I just checked and the works don't get revealed until October 1st, so it wouldn't as urgent as I thought. :)

Huh, I thought all hockey rpf was disallowed no matter what you nominated it under.

'Hockey RPF' as a fandom is not allowed, but individual teams are allowed. You can only nominate characters with fewer than 1000 fics (no filters).

Re: Exchanges, etc - Yuletide

(Anonymous) 2016-09-14 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh okay, thank you! Seems like a stupid rule if it's so easy to circumvent, but fine with me!

I think the Yuletide mods are of two minds about it too, lol. There's always some weirdness about how to deal with different "types" of canons, and it seems like the consensus with hockey RPF is that it's a series of interconnecting canons instead of all one. Then to deal with the fact that there's trades and people always try to circumvent rules, there's the 1000 fic rule for real people.

It falls in line with how they treat RPF in general, which is basically the only area of Yuletide that is rare character-based instead of rare canon-based. So it's not really that nominating Price/Subban would be circumventing the rules (as they definitely have less than 1000 works on AO3 and FF.net) so much as the nominator made a mistake with their nomination that rendered it ineligible. Same as if I accidentally nominated Black Widow (MCU) instead of Black Widow (Black Widow Comics).

Meanwhile the media ships it hard.
http://triblive.com/sports/penguins/11122343-74/crosby-malkin-exhibition

Sid and Geno. Peanut butter and jelly. The star centers who have carried the team to a pair of Stanley Cup championships in the past eight years.

At first, it was an arranged marriage. Thanks to the way the ping-pong balls bounced in the NHL draft lottery process, Crosby and Malkin were thrust together into the Penguins lineup about 10 years ago whether they liked it or not. As it turns out, they liked it.

It's actually meant to promote easier offering/matching, as well, since you can only offer/request two to four specified characters in a given fandom or 'any'. So, for instance, if all the characters named above were lumped into one famdom, and I felt like I could offer Ovechkin, Backstrom, Price, Subban, Niemi and Lehtonen, then I'd either have to not offer two of them or gamble on offering the whole set if I wanted to write in the fandom. Whereas this way, I could just offer each of those pairs under their respective teams (if someone had nominated PK and Carey correctly) and have a chance of matching on all of the characters I want to write!
