Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration
From: (Anonymous)Re: Gossip and off-ice lives-Seguin
From: (Anonymous)One person thinking Seguin is/could be as bad as Kane =/= fandom or meme giving him the Kane treatment. Meme and fandom aren't even close to treating Seguin like Kane.

From: (Anonymous)I don't think the OP was talking about a "Kane treatment" or meme treating him a certain way. They said they were backreading. There was an actual conversation about who would be the next Kane recently with multiple people participating. OP asked if that was based on a new scandal, since they hadn't heard anything. You are acting more persecuted than the OP.

Re: Gossip and off-ice lives-Seguin
From: (Anonymous)Where on earth did they say they were backreading? They said they "read a lot of anon meme" and that "it seems to be picking up." If the Kane mention is referring to that one specific conversation that happened... not all that recently iirc?, then I misunderstood the comment, but if they're asking for an explanation of one specific person's opinion that Seguin is actually most likely to be the next Kane, not a trend of meme being down on him... it's not rocket science to figure out why someone might think that of him, even without any new scandals.
And no, disagreeing with someone and being annoyed by them, even if it's with undue tetchiness, isn't "acting persecuted," lol.

From: (Anonymous)In related news, Beaulieu stood up for Patch on twitter and now Bergevin is "listening to offers". https://twitter.com/ArponBasu/status/776634308119453696?s=09
So. All Galchenyuk needs to do is post on instagram about how he's behind Pacioretty 100% and he will get traded! It's sure to work! (Please let this work.)
Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration
From: (Anonymous)I read the comments on reddit (always a risk) and there was an interesting subthread on risk assessment and which player is "really" riskier: https://www.reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/531zwm/we_the_players_and_management_simply_thought_pks/d7p84wj
But honestly, I think that misses the point. The whole team, both management and players, seem to have a narrative and they're sticking with it. In the same article, Emelin says, "It's best for the team. There will be more discipline. That's my opinion, anyway."
I guess I'm a little disappointed. It's just not necessary for them to try to make PK out to be undisciplined, too risky, whatever. The trade is done and I don't see the point in it.

Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration
From: (Anonymous)I'd guess the point is for ass-saving PR reasons, because of how unpopular the trade was in Montreal.
I think you're right about the debate about "risk" somewhat missing the point that this really seems to be a party line determined to attack Subban's character. Someone else in the reddit thread mentioned the title quote probably wasn't even the most damning remark that Price made -- it was comparing Subban to Weber and suggesting more or less that Subban's problem was that he doesn't "buy in" to the team concept and work ethic, unlike Weber.
The whole situation seems weird. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Habs management was pressuring players into making these statements (the article says Emelin commented "timidly") but I also wouldn't be at all surprised if this is what those players actually believe.
Re: Gossip and off-ice lives-Seguin
From: (Anonymous)That's how it looks when you crank up the aggression to 100 right off the bat, lol. And, hey, some people manage to answer questions and misunderstandings about actual rocket science without the undue "tetchiness."
Re: Gossip and off-ice lives-Seguin
From: (Anonymous)Then you don't clearly don't understand what the word "persecuted," means if you think all expressions of hostility = acting like you're being persecuted.
And that's because questions about actual rocket science are cool and interesting, unlike questions assuming that something ~new must have happened to make something dislike your "narratively better soft bro," when said bro has already given everyone plenty of reason to dislike him.
Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration
From: (Anonymous)This just seems weird and kind of upsetting. (Especially questioning Subban's work ethic? Wtf.) There's a certain amount of character assassination after unpopular trades, but I don't feel like I usually hear it from the players. I think they probably believe it at least somewhat, though I wouldn't be surprised either if Habs management had a hand in it.
The Habs in general seem like one big weird situation. I guess we'll see how it shakes out over the next couple seasons.

Yeah, thinking about it, what seems most plausible to me is that they do believe it at least somewhat, but management is encouraging them to talk openly about it. Because, yeah, this is above and beyond what I feel is the normal kind of post-trade character assassination, which seems to happen more noisily in the press and much more tacitly with the team? I can see how other players might resent Subban's style of play on a team with a risk-averse system, even if evaluating Subban himself as a player who is a risk to have on the team is off the mark.
