I assume the author was going for the "Texas Rangers" effect and PK and Tavares were GTA boys together, but it was still just WRONG to see JT, New York *Ranger* in that Western AU Carey/PK.

+ 1 the rec. ("Walk Me Down the Kinsey Scale" is also quality gallysquared imo, but doesn't quite meet the length requirement.)

Okay, explain to me what the Texas Rangers effect is. Because I can't tell if you mean baseball or law enforcement and neither context enlightens me.

NA

It meets the length requirement with the second chapter, but the second chapter was also a step backwards IMO.

But yes, it just sounds wrong.

The mods updated the spreadsheet yay! I'm unmatchable for both writing and receiving (d'oh), but maybe this will pique someone's interest.

I want to sign up, but I'm not sure if I should since I tend to be the type of writer who can either finish an entire 5k fic in like two days, or have 500 words sit and stare at them in a word document for six months before admitting defeat :(

Re: Exchanges, etc - hockey rarepair exchange

I'm at a point where I feel like I should be engaging with fandom more but I am... so bad at writing under pressure. And the last couple of times I've tried reaching out have ended in dead ends, which wasn't super encouraging and made me less confident that I'm any good at providing wanted content lmao.

Re: Exchanges, etc - hockey rarepair exchange

(Anonymous) 2016-07-20 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Wanted content" is such a hard thing to judge. For me, the people who like my stuff really like my stuff but the hit count and kudos and such stay kind of low. And I want to say I'm above that and to just write for me/for the people who like my stuff but it still bums me out sometimes. Idk.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-20 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I seem to be matchable on my offers on a v surprising pairing, which is I guess the most important, but not on any of my requests.

Re: Exchanges, etc - hockey rarepair exchange

(Anonymous) 2016-07-20 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, someone requested a rarepair I like to write, and nobody else is offering to write it. And a few others I like have "request/offer" at 1 and 1, so maybe I can help others be matchable if I sign up. That's a fun thought.

Re: Exchanges, etc - hockey rarepair exchange

(Anonymous) 2016-07-20 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hopefully someone decides to offer one of your requests! I'm hoping there will be at least one person who can write for me and one that I can write for. I have a few safety pairings that I can throw in if I need to, but I'd rather match on what I have listed now.

Re: Exchanges, etc - hockey rarepair exchange

(Anonymous) 2016-07-20 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
You should! Almost everything I requested is at 1 and 1, but that's because I'm the one offering them. I imagine that's probably the case with a lot of the pairings listed at 1 and 1.

That's been my position in most fandoms. I think I'm just in that place of "too outside general fandom taste for most people" + "a good writer but not someone who is going to attract devoted hordes on the quality of my prose alone."

Athletes, how dare you lock your instagram accounts. You're interfering with vital research!

BNFs don't often attract devoted hordes on the quality of their prose alone though. Certainly I don't think anyone in hockey has. The most recent example of it that I can think of is leupagus getting thousands of people to read Poe Dameron/Luke Skywalker based on exactly 0 interaction between them in the film.

da

I don't need BNF levels of notoriety. Just, like, a solid base and a few people to go "nah" when haters get hypercritical. Not that I really have haters in the first place.

AYRT I don't mind going out to pinch hit if need be, but I guess I better make my requests attractive, haha. I haven't written a letter yet but maybe I will.

Re: Exchanges, etc - hockey rarepair exchange

(Anonymous) 2016-07-20 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even know who I'd say is a BNF anymore.

Re: Exchanges, etc - hockey rarepair exchange

(Anonymous) 2016-07-20 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
Same. K/T BNFs have left. S/G BNFs have also left but for Other Reasons. And the one that still writes them is getting a lot more shade over here than she ever used to, based on social justice type concerns.

I'd really like to try my hand at pinch hitting or maybe more realistically treating (because it seems like a nice thing do and less pressure...) if there are rarepairs that otherwise wouldn't get any fic. Does anyone know whether all requests/prompts might be available for that down the line? In case not everyone writes/links their dear author letter, I mean.
