Well that was underwhelming.

AHAHA

But also same. I was only reading this fic for the emotional fallout, and it robs me of that? What a waste of time.

I'm not even sure she would hold up to a challenge. I'm also a little :/ at including Justin Courtnall under Dallas Stars because he plays for a fucking different team.

AYRT Yeah, I made that face too. I guess he's nominated as a buddy of the Benns and probably wouldn't hold up to a challenge either, but I don't know whether I can be bothered.

Ayrt

If Courtnall got challenged and then moved under his own team tag, I'd laugh.

Late, but here are some team Europe quotes/videos/gifs.

Ralph Krueger: We didn't have to do a lot of extra team building -- it just happened.

[Chara:] A lot of time you might think I'm maybe sad but inside I'm happy and smiling. That's just the way I am and I'm not expressing myself. Maybe I should do that because my wife tells me I have a beautiful smile, so I maybe should.

Kopitar and Draisaitl (some of these links were posted in another thread but they're worth reposting):

Take a closer look at Leon Draisaitl's rise to Team Europe and his growing relationship with LA Kings superstar Anze Kopitar.

https://twitter.com/EdmontonOilers/status/777988194927120384

“At first, he was too star-struck. Too shy. Not to show what he was all about. But once he got comfortable … you saw it in [the Washington exhibition game] and you’re seeing it now. We’re going to need much more of the same, going forward,” said Kopitar.

“He was just shy around everybody. I think when I looked back when I was 20, I was probably shy too. That’s when the older guys poke him a little bit, make sure he comes out of his shell.”
https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/leon-draisaitl-drops-shyness-dominates-world-cup-for-europe-230558882.html

Being part of this team is very special, especially as a young guy from Germany. It's never easy to, first of all, get to the NHL because it's not such a traditional hockey country and, for me personally, being around Anze Kopitar is very special. He's always been one of my favorite players. I really look up to him and try and model myself and my game after him. Being able to see him practice and being able to see him as a guy and be around him, play on the same team, is really cool.

"To be quite honest with you, I was about 90 percent sure he was going to score," Team Europe forward Anze Kopitar said. "The way he's going right now, there's not a whole lot of people who can stop him. I hope he keeps playing like this for us."

I heard later that after the game Monday, Anze Kopitar and Zdeno Chara were talking about how confident they were I'd score on that overtime breakaway. That means a lot. Anze is a guy I really look up to and he's always been one of my favorite players. Same with Chara. You learn so much by being around those guys. It gives you a lot of confidence that stars like those two talk like that about you.

Thanks for this round up, nonny. I particularly liked Zuccarello flinging himself into Bødker's arms.

Russia v Canada 7 p.m.

Only one of his points was a primary assist, lol. Everything else was a secondary point.

If anyone was "the guy" it was MacKinnon and maybe Gaudreau.

It's truly amazing how my interest in the WCOH dwindled down to zero after team baby got eliminated. Go Russia though, boo Canada always.

Praying for a Russia/Sweden final, can't say I'm gonna watch though haha

MacKinnon and Gaudreau can share "the guy"-ness. They were both so incredibly good. (Also Gaudreau was the goals and points leader on the team and had at least one point in every game, with MacKinnon right behind him in all those categories. He's no "maybe.") But I agree, McDavid didn't really contribute much.

Thanks for all the links! I especially liked the bit on Chara, lol. Maybe it's just the affection talking, but I also think he has a very cute smile.

I might watch Europe/Sweden. I'm still kind of interested in Team Europe, but Team NA was #1 in my heart, and now that they're gone I'm just kind of over it.

I was using "the guy" the way the article did- as in the guy in charge, the go-to player etc. By making him the captain and giving him the most TOI McLellan was trying to give him the confidence he apparently gets from "knowing he's the guy", but he still didn't do well. I don't disagree with you, lol,but the coaching staff clearly did.

Yeah this is me. If Europe gets eliminated I know I won't bother with the final though.

I would enjoy if Europe won for anarchy reasons, and I like team Sweden because they have a lot of hotties, but we all know Canada's going to win and that makes it hard for me to actually care. I guess it's entertaining for Canadians, but it takes a lot of the shine out of international hockey for me when you realize it's just a competition to see who will be #2.

I have trouble imagining the YT mods would care enough to bother.

100% agreed, it's really annoying. The only thing that could salvage this for me is if Canada loses somehow. Hilariously one-sided game against Team Europe would be my #1 pick, but I'll take anything, really.
