I don't know why the process would have been any different in his case than what's been described. The person is interviewed. The interview is typed up with some editing where necessary. The person gets a copy of the article to approve or make changes. It's published.

It would not have required changes to the usual process for him to say he wanted to alternate pronouns or whatever.

Bruce Arthur has definitely made some gross comments about politics this election cycle.

You are the kind of Pens fan people hate. Your comment has literally nothing to do with the topic at hand, and inserting the Pens into every sub-thread for no discernible reason is grating af.

Even as a presidential candidate, Trump has a reputation for saying insane shit on Twitter that no other candidate in the election does.

I'm on my way to work but I'll look later. IIRC some sexist jokes and the like that made me raise my eyebrows. He's anti-Trump for sure, though.

Not a pens fan. But thanks for assuming.

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

This making everything about "the kind of Pens fan that people hate" is even more annoying than the Pens fans imo. I interpreted the comment as the ayrt wanted to cull people who liked the Pens/were obnoxious about them winning. Regardless, irritating behavior isn't confined to fans or haters of one particular team, but jumping on BAD PENS FAN when it's not even clear someone is one (why would a Pens fan write this?? when you win you enjoy seeing the reactions of people who hate your team the most) is OTT and says more about you then whoever your criticizing.

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, definitely not true that anti-Trump (which ought to be a pretty low bar) = a good person.

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 11:37 am (UTC)(link)
lol ok. If I'd decided to be uncharitable, I would have said "this is why meme finds Pens fans insufferable". But I didn't. I said I found the particular commenter insufferable and would that they were un-anon, I would cull them from all platforms.

why would a Pens fan write this?? when you win you enjoy seeing the reactions of people who hate your team the most

Because this is how all people feel ever!!!!1 RME. This person 100% sounds like a Pens fan and I don't buy them (and you) now proclaiming that they meant something different.

It's pretty obvious what they meant? Especially when people on meme have talked before about muting/unfollowing obnoxious Pens fans during the playoffs/after they won? Like lmao obviously your interpretation is colored by your perception of Pens fans, so that must be the source of any comment you find annoying. It's hilarious bc you complain about Pens fans bringing up the Pens everywhere, but it seems like lately on meme it's OTT haters doing that and now accusing each other of being Pens fans lmao. Like ffs no one's lying about how they interpreted a comment just to ~prove you wrong.

Seriously, they compared the Pens winning a cup to an election where Donald Trump is a viable candidate. Sure, there's some possible ambiguity there but that "100 percent sounds like a Pens fan" yeah that definitely is bc of what they wrote and not bc of the perception of the person reading, mm hmm.

*compared Twitter reactions to, I'm not trying to accuse anyone of comparing a team they don't like to a fascist racist sexist homophobe etc.

I'm just astounded this person thinks they weren't "uncharitable," like..... ok......

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 12:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoops. I guess I wasn't clear enough. All I meant in comparing those 3 events was that large scale events (the conventions, free agency, the cup final) are all things that captured the attention of my TL as a whole. And that mostly single topic of discussion provided the opportunity to easily pick out and unfollow those who have opinions that didn't square with mine.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
This whole argument reminds me of the time someone on meme made a joke about Crosby having the Dubi-flu when he missed a game against CBJ, and meme wanked about whether a CBJ or Pens fans had made it and if it was a joke at Crosby's or Dubinsky's expense... and then which fanbase is more obnoxious, blahblahblah...

Re: Random Hockey Stuff

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

Eh, I just think having differing opinions about hockey teams is fundamentally not the same as having differing opinions about fascist dictators and human rights. Like, being a fan of a team, even being an obnoxious fan, is not a moral thing. Idk I'm sensitive about people trying to interpret what teams/players you root for as a reflection of how good of a person you are, and even though that wasn't your intent it sounds like, the change to your comment from the one you replied to was kinda jarring. I can see people making shitty comments about the P.K. Subban trade and race, for example, as relevant to that convo, if that's what you were referring to by "free agency." But I think the confusion was that it was hard to imagine how people's opinions about free agency or the cup final could be the same kind of bad as supporting Trump.

Meme's not very good with jokes, especially jokes involving the Pens.

Agreed. Comparing disliking a hockey team to disliking Trump is a pretty gross comparison.

Why do I even read threads about hockey players in legal trouble? God dammit, Reddit. Yes, I'm sure they're all lying for a payday when E Kane was fucking caught on video.

I'm just going to go bash my head against something.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Reddit has been pretty decent about the E. Kane case so far but it's "interesting" how the "DAE WOMEN ARE EVIL SCAMMERS, WE DON'T KNO ALL THE FACTS" people emerged only when more details were published which suggested he was threatening rape...very interesting how they didn't have such attachment to "the benefit of the doubt" when he he was charged with trespassing...

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
One one hand, that's completely unsurprising, but on the other hand sometimes I have to step back and be like, wait, what they are saying is completely not a reasonable or logical reaction. Like wtf, what is WRONG with you? It is genuinely difficult for me to imagine how so many guys could be so threatened by the idea that some woman somewhere has been hurt.

This isn't really an invitation for people to explain it to me. It's just really hard to understand sometimes, emotionally.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
NA

I definitely noticed that too. Also how the most popular response that kept cropping up whenever sexual assault was mentioned was how he "needed help". It's not like there's no merit to the idea of trying to rehabilitate rapists and abusers, but there was way more attachment to the idea of "helping" him every time a report that he may have sexually assaulted someone came out than I've ever seen on any r/hockey post about a guy using drugs or having a drinking problem.

Re: Fandom Venting

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly! I specifically noticed multiple people saying "he doesn't need to be kicked out of the league, he needs help". Like maybe...both? Would be good? If he does have a drinking problem he obviously needs help but it doesn't excuse any of this behavior, clearly.
