Bergy = Patrik Berglund
Mags = Magnus Paajarvi
Gunny = Carl Gunnarsson

It probably is a good idea to let people know which person with a common nickname you're referring to, but the picture was on Paajarvi's instagram and he tagged Berglund's insta in his comment about it, so it wasn't totally impossible to figure out who the two guys pictured were if you clicked the picture.

Ayrt

I genuinely don't know, I mentioned them because the linked article did. None of the other articles I've looked at about the naming issue bring up the London Knights when they suggest that the name is probably going to end up being Knights.

Just for fun, here's the London Knights' entry in the Canadian trademark database, in case there is anyone who knows more about trademarks who wants to take a look.

Woot! I'm not doing this exchange, but hopefully my need for MOAR of my ship will be satisfied by others. I'm still tickled that Nicky/Ovi has made what ground it has. I think there were ~6 stories on AO3 when I started in this fandom.

Re: Rare Pairs

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That assumes a baseline interest. Most people are probably just not going to care instead of parsing through another team's generic nicknames for people they don't recognize.

AYRT Well, yes, when I clicked the picture I saw that it was not the Patrice Bergeron "Bergy" and the user names were right there for all my clicking pleasure. I was just rambling about the nutty thought process I went through when I read the sentence in the post because I thought someone else might find it amusing.

I mean, obviously clicking through to the picture cleared up everything since Mags Bennett on Justified was played by Margo Martindale, a lovely and very talented woman but not one who could be confused for a hot Swedish hockey player. :D

If you don't care enough to click on the picture that's linked (to an account with one of the guys names right there), then why complain about not knowing who they are?

Re: Rare Pairs

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I might be interested in clicking through to the picture if I first knew who they were instead of treating instagram links like a box of chocolates.

Re: Rare Pairs

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, if I'm curious about a link I click it to see who it is. If I'm not interested enough to click, I go on about my day and don't bother complaining that I have no idea who the people in the picture I didn't even look at are. But you do you, anon.

Re: Rare Pairs

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, most people were joking about who this non-Bergeron Bergy was and where he found a Mags, but keep up the judginess.

And here I was picturing Marc Bergevin/Magneto.

Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration

Killorn signed for 7 years at 4.45/year- https://twitter.com/BBurnsNHL/status/754738004015669248 His arbitration date would have been the 20th.

I'm not a huge fan of this deal since I kind of assumed he was a prime candidate to be moved to make more cap space for everybody else, and that term is loooong. But I trust the Yzerplan. Somebody's going to get traded soon though. I suspect Filppula, assuming the trade market for Bish is still less than great.

If only women's hockey rpf centered around, you know, women's hockey! Shocking concept, I know.

NA. It's discouraging as someone that really wants to participate (I've nominated for the past 2 rarepair exchanges) but has no next to no chance of being matched to anyone because I don't ship niche crossover pairs. Even slightly expanded horizons for a rarepair exchange would be nice. :(

I really wanted to just write some gift fics, to get myself back into the swing of things and give hockey rpf a first try, so I'm kind of disappointed that it doesn't seem like we'll be able to see the actual requests (the specifics, I mean).

Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Apart from your team winning the Stanley Cup, I suppose, what would you be happy to see happen this season?

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I always feel a bit mean saying it, but I still hope the Habs trade Galchenyuk. Or you know, fire the terrible duo, but sadly that seems less realistic...

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly the only one which occurred to me was that I want the Bruins to make a successful trade which works out well for them. Preferably for a defenseman, but if they win at least one trade this season I'll be happy. Expectations have never been lower lmao.

I also hope Taylor Hall tears it up in NJ.

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ohh, I agree about Taylor Hall. I don't even like the dude, but that trade was such a mess that I want the Oilers to stew in their regret.

I would like the Stars to acquire a goalie, please.

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I also want this, so.

Well, what I want is for the team to keep Price and Galchenyuk and jettison Therrien and Bergevin, but that's not going to happen, so I want Chucky and Price to leave town instead.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I would like the hockey media to forget about us again so I don't have to keep seeing really insulting articles like it's 1998.

I would also like someone to take Subban on a tour of the non-embarrassing parts of the city.

You could take a look at the public letters and see if anything grabs your interest.

I don't particularly like him either but his comments after the trade about how he felt the Oilers were "taken away from him" and that he basically felt that the trade was a negative judgment on him as a player made me hope he does really well. I guess that means I hope the Devils do well by association so that he can be on a winning team for once but I don't like any Metro teams so that's fine with me tbh.

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

(Anonymous) 2016-07-17 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe when Galchenyuk is an RFA after this season they'll think he's "too greedy" and they'll let him walk after being pissy and terrible about it? Maybe Price won't sign with them again? Only two more years... :|

I cling to these hopes, lol. I would throw a party if that wasn't necessary because they fired Therrien and Bergevin but knowing our luck they'd just hire equally terrible people if they actually did.

His comments actually somewhat surprised me because I didn't think he'd be that attached to a team that keeps losing. Was it him that made the comments that "winning is nice for a change" at worlds(?)? I felt like the Oilers should have been happier that a good player was buying into their whole thing.
