Re: EKane civil suit

I don't want to start a new thread for the criminal case, so I hope we agree to just use this one. Anyway, I don't think it was mentioned on meme that his arraignment in the criminal case was yesterday. He pled not guilty. The case is due back in court on Sept. 9, and he is free without bail until then.

The NWHL is partnering with You Can Play!!

(although Rylan saying that "the hockey community can proudly say we are the most inclusive professional sport in the world" ...... I hope that's a platitude that she hopes, by saying it publicly, will help make it more true, not something she's un-self-aware enough to actually believe :/)

Re: Women's Hockey

Exciting news! I have to admit to being really skeptical about the NHL YCP videos, but it feels different with the NWHL, where there are out players who will probably be speaking in some of the videos. I know the CWHL has an existing partnership with them (though I have to admit some difficulty in following them as an organization), so I assume it'll follow much of the same format.

(And haha, yeah, that is an incredibly laughable thing to say and I sure hope she doesn't mean it.)

I admit that at this point I dislike Rest mostly for petty reasons, but the way they talk about Jamie Benn's lisp bothers me so much and makes me so uncomfortable.

Someone's speech impediment is not a fun personality quirk that gives them ~character~. It's not something for you to think is interesting and to enjoy, what the hell?

they're still around and talking about jamie benn?

I'm surprised that TSN also published the woman's name.

I unfollowed them pretty quickly after they started their whole "I'm insulting them because their faults are what's interesting about them" thing. And so many hockey players have lisps (a childhood of fucked up teeth, represent), it's kinda ridiculous to fixate on it as another ~soft~ aspect of Jamie Benn.

It's a little disappointing that one of the people who got me into hockey fic turned out this way (along with mostly being into The Most Boring Subfandoms nowadays), but what can ya do.

Shame that Fortunato is leaving BU.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
Where is he going?

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
I loved this one too.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
Don't think he's said yet.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
One v v sketch internet comment suggested that he's going to play a year of junior and then go back to a different college (he can do that?? Doesn't the CHL make him college ineligible?) and Twitter suggested that he's leaving because he wanted guaranteed ice time and BU is stacked on the blue line (with players better than him??)

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
There are plenty of juniors leagues that aren't the CHL. The vast majority of college players play in them before college. I think NCAA has something about a year of ineligibility after transferring, going back to juniors might get him around that.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
Ah, okay. I couldn't make sense of what I read on SB Nation, but I think your info clears it up.

http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/hockey-east/2016/7/29/12321630/brandon-fortunato-leaving-boston-university

Sounds like he's leaving BU (because they have two incoming players expected to supercede him) and go play for the USHL for a year (which allows him to maintain his NCAA eligibility), and while it's unknown for sure what school he'll go to after that, he originally committed to Harvard before going to BU.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
I also appreciated the number of college hockey twitters that felt it necessary to point out that he was leaving purely for hockey reasons - not for disciplinary reasons.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
It also sounds like he didn't want to switch to playing forward due to the blue line depth. They have really good recruits coming in.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
I'm kimda surprised he hasn't been strong-armed into being a forward before tbh. I've always pictured D-men as the bigger guys on the team and Fortunato is like Gaudreau-sized.

Re: July AO3 stats

From: (Anonymous)
I honestly don't know - does he has enough skill to make that happen?

Re: Women's Hockey

From: (Anonymous)
Nice to see a few LGBT players be appointed as ambassadors rather than it being all straight people for once. Hope this doesn't turn out like the CWHL's partnership, where iirc they had trouble getting LGBT players and even allies on record to make a video.

Re: Women's Hockey

From: (Anonymous)
Do you have more info regarding the CWHL's partnership? Was there ever word for why people didn't want to make videos?

Re: Women's Hockey

From: (Anonymous)
The article is down now, but: http://speakslow13.tumblr.com/post/39654316774/

It was more or less implied by several people that they had a hard time not only getting LGBT players to go on record, but also straight allies, which is all pretty much corroborated by the fact that the CWHL never put out a league-wide YCP video. Montreal ended up having to make their own.

I like to be cautiously optimistic in thinking it might be a difference scene now with lots of league players out on some level and some of the major national teamers toeing that line, but who knows for now.
