Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

From: (Anonymous)
I want the Devils to not be in dead last in goals for. The unrealistic dream is the in the top half, but I understand that even with Hall and our younger guys ( Boucher, Blandisi, Zacha etc) coming into their own, that's not happening.

I'd also like to see an NHL player come out, with a positive reception league-wide.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but is it possible Filppula's NMC might make him hard to move as far as expansion goes? I've seen people say the NMCs carry over so the acquiring team would need to have that spot open for him, unless they think they can get him to waive I guess.

But Yzerman has indeed proven that he's probably worth trusting at this point.

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

Yeah, I always got the impression he bought into it the most of all their top picks, including McDavid and RNH.

Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration

I thought teams had to protect players with NMCs? Does his not go into effect until after the expansion draft?

Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration

From: (Anonymous)
That's what I'm trying to say (perhaps poorly). He has a NMC so trading him might be difficult because the receiving team would have to protect him next summer? Hartnell stuff is where I've mostly seen it but it would probably apply here too.

No, I think you're right. His name has just been thrown around a lot because he's probably not worth his contract to the team at this point, but we can get more return on him than we would with Callahan, who has the other big albatross contract. If he waives it to be traded he might be open to waiving it for Vegas as well, although I guess it would depend on how committed he is to staying with his new team. I think somebody's gone after Kucherov and gets signed though, we can't possibly keep everyone.

I got the sense (maybe Oilers nonnies can correct me if I'm wrong) is that part of his gripe was that he stuck around and suffered through when they were terrible, and now that they're almost certainly going to improve thanks to McDavid he got ditched. It might have just been fan speculation but I thought I read that he was specifically upset that they didn't see him as part of the McJesus future. Which is understandable, tbh.

Thought this was a bit long but still a quality read: http://archiveofourown.org/works/7513546

But there are women's hockey-only ships. I thought the person complaining was saying they didn't make sense, but it's not like they're not there.

Speaking of Subban, I came here to post this! It is utterly delightful.

Oh yeah, it's... not great on the Oilers' part, especially if they messed up his development for nothing.

I just had to look up his age because I didn't remember and damn, he played for them longer than I thought. Time flies, huh.

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

Oilers nonnie can't confirm that that is what he actually meant. But she can confirm that that is exactly the way he comes off in the media and how she imagines his mind works.

He's always had a problem with wearing his emotions right there on his sleeve for the world to see so it wouldn't shock me if he meant exactly what he said (I will happily watch him take retaliation penalties from afar in the same way I happily watched post-trade Patented James Neal Offensive Zone Penalties)

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

Oilers nonnie again

I also think there's some lingering resentment from Taylor because he didn't really play well with McDavid. McDavid is a really, really good passer. And Taylor Hall doesn't have cement hands. But he's not exactly an elite finisher either. Eberle played much better with McDavid because Eberle has more "finish."

THIS GUY. The Carey reference was a sad reminder though :(

I want my team to fail badly and missed the playoff once again. Just because I hate the owners and their freaking culture. Force them to actually realize that their window is close/closing and they need to change.

On other hand, I want to see them succeed and show everyone that they can still make the playoff.

I want one of the player traded because keeping him 6+ years isn't a good idea and he might be the best bargain chip they have to improve their D.

Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah that's probably the biggest help here, that he has enough rep that another team might want to take a chance on him rebounding from this year's numbers. Should be interesting how it plays out.

This is going to be the worst parts of the Jones draft and the Forsberg trade all mushed into one and turned up to eleven.

*cry*

na

To be bit dramatic, I feel like this trade still hasn't quite hit me and it will all catch up to me when I see Carey without him on the ice.

I would like to watch my tram with minimal stress of injury or heartbreak for at least the whole regular season

Also I would love Sid to win the Hart again

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, that's my hope, that the bridge deal for Chucky will bite them in the ass big time, and that Price gets sick of their bullshit and walks. He has to want a cup, and he has to know that these guys have no idea how to win one. ("Chicago culture" my ass. Know what Chicago did? Kept their best players.)

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

From: (Anonymous)
It's especially understandable considering what he got traded for, and that he's at worst top-4 at his position. Adam Larsson is fine, sure, but I don't think he'll improve much with more o-zone starts, especially since there's work showing zone starts don't significantly move the needle.

Re: What's Up With Your Team- Age of Arbitration

From: (Anonymous)
Yeah, no matter what happens it'll definitely be interesting. I think Yzerman is pretty good so far at balancing win now vs. build for the future, but depending on how some of these contracts go the cup window with the current group might be closing pretty fast. I hope it doesn't lead to any stupid decisions.

Re: Hopes, wishes and dreams for 16/17

From: (Anonymous)
When I read that "Chicago culture" comment it just made me even more certain that these people have no idea what they're doing, just kind of "going with their gut" or whatever they want to call it and then think success will come to them because of how "real and practical" they are.

I'm really curious how the team will play with Price back in the line-up and whether he can mask their lack of direction again.

Hi ESL Bruins nonny.

They shouldn't trade Marchand. That would slam the window shut IMO.

I don't think continuously missing the playoffs and wasting Bergeron/Marchand would make the culture change. The only way that happens is if Cam Neely leaves.
