I mean, Shea Weber. There's at least one precedent.

Pray tell me more about Shea Weber, Philadelphia Flyer.

While that did throw me for a loop, if you're going to keep the Oilers as a bottom feeder team for the next fifteen years, you probably need to get rid of McDavid for the sake of the narrative. I think they would have been better off picking a different team and dropping the McDavid bit entirely.

I really don't think anyone on the Habs is going to be mad they "only" got Shea Weber for PK. Mad they moved PK at all, sure. But take a step back from all the post-trade analysis about how Weber is barely a top 100 dman in the league to realize how respected he is amongst the players.

*sighs in unexpected relief that I am neither of these Phlochte authors*

It made me happy to see a lot of the big-name hockey media members sending him messages that basically said "buck up buddy - you're still great"

It also reminded me of someone on the SDP telling the story of a cancer patient kid who loved Friedge and wanted to meet him but ended up backing out because he was bald from chemo. Friedge heard the story and without telling anyone shaved his head and went on HNIC the next night bald to show the kid that it was ok.

(Caveats - I called him Friedge because I didn't want to look up how to spell his actual name and I'm lazy. And the story might not be entirely accurate because my memory is ehhhhh)

I hope the writing gods can hear our collective longing for Drouin/Mackinnon.

They want to actually fill the seats. No one is going to pay what they'd pay to see a Canada vs. US game to watch Team NA vs. Team Europe.

Interesting. I was under the impression that ticket sales were down because so far they'd only released the stupid expensive multi-game packages and those weren't selling well. I hadn't looked to see if they've released individual games yet.

Yeah, the whole point of the Shea Weber story is that the Preds DID match.

Some Caps are back at Kettler at informal practices and our beat writer is back from vacation. She managed to find some news this morning even if it's August:

Karl's recovering fine from his sports hernia surgery and has been skating for a month.

Stan is switching numbers to 16

And in a surprise Nicky and his partner are expecting their second child at the end of the month! New Backstrom baby. The most exciting part of the news today.

Also it looks like TJ will have 74 for the World Cup if the NHL store is correct.

Stake and steak are not the same thing. Good LORD.

You missed the very important phrasing in the Nicky baby tweet:
Nicklas Backstrom said he's having baby No. 2 at the end of the month, so pretty soon.

I enjoyed the one person who answered her saying he shouldn't be skating in his third trimester.

Gallagher and Lucic are training together this summer.

http://wpmedia.theprovince.com/2016/08/png0804sgallagher-02.jpg

"He spent last summer at his home in Kelowna, but sold the place and is back living in the Delta area this off-season. He’s rejoined his old training group there, working out alongside fellow former Giants forward Lance Bouma and Brendan Gallagher under Ian Gallagher, the longtime strength and conditioning coach of the Giants."

there's a video here: http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/lucic-hopes-form-at-end-of-oilers-deal-gets-another-contract

and Lucic played in Gallagher's charity softball game.

I'd be down for this! There are a few fills collecting dust in my WIP folder that I'd really like to finish.

Sid talks up Brad Marchand, article writer suggests possible "Crosby-Marchand lovefest" (what a phrase) at the World Cup. I am Here For It.

"You’re so used to playing against him, you know the way he plays," Crosby chuckles.

"Having him on your team is going to be so much more enjoyable than having to play against him. Having a local guy, someone who’s from the same area, I think that’s pretty special to be competing for Team Canada with someone like that.”

Radulov just referred to him as "the world's best defender" in an interview.

I hope we do get some Marchand love out of this. I was hoping we'd get some Gallachand out of IIHF Worlds, but nothing seemingly came from that.

Yeah, there's definitely some grief/rage blinders on for the fans. I hope people get over it a little by the time the season proper starts. I'm angry too, but Weber isn't exactly the albatross people are making him out to be.
