First of all, why is it so terrible that a couple of Caps fans would like to see one of their guys get an award (that this meme regularly decries as bullshit anyway)? Nobody jumped on the fans who want Crosby or Malkin to win yet another Hart or Art Ross or for Kopitar to win a thing or the ones who want nice things for fucking Taylor Hall or Dustin Brown (who I personally loathe, but hey, he's got fans, I guess)

Then suddenly it's like, ugh, don't even mention Backstrom, you circlejerky whiners. What the fuck? Hate him, the Caps, and all their fans all you want but these kinds of OTT comments are why this meme has such a rep for being full of assholes and wankers.
