I always feel bad for saying the level of play in the EIHL isn't very high, but I'm really wondering the same thing. Even clubs with a loyal fanbase usually struggle keeping their audience if they lose a lot here. It's not really like in the NHL with Edmonton or Toronto etc.
And even if they say that the standard will be higher in the KHL, how do they mean to pay for those contracts of better players? And then the transport logistics like you mentioned... With London being this far west even "only" flying to Helsinki or Moscow would already be a lot more hassle than most European clubs are used to. And I guess they don't really count on establishing a continent wide tv audience? Even in the NHL people are grumbling about timezones and that's only three! The KHL has 12 now!
I don't know. I don't want to be too pessimistic but I keep thinking "well, how's it gonna work then" about a million aspects.
