Re: What's up with Your Team: It's August Edition

Several things. Sometimes I want to just hash out my feelings, and I will gladly elaborate when asked. I figure most of you will scroll but it's a slow month. I try to not write walls of text.

(I kept this bland and neutral because I am still ??? At how two sentences I posted about Hildebrand turned into a small thread of passive aggressiveness.)

That being said, the actual Americans update blog is great and informative.

But

At the end of every ECHL season, there are always lots of guys going to Europe to play in France or the UK (maybe I should go talk to EIHL nonny sometime) or Germany. This is for obvious reasons.

Often, the coach has to activately court the players. Oh, wait, that's the GM's job, but it's the same thing down here. Our GM is our coach and part time bus driver. He's looking for defensemen right now.

They won a Cup here, yeah, but Arseneau, for example, signed with the Thunder because his buddy played there. He was a fan favorite.

You just can't keep key pieces; the pay, the lack of recognition, the slight some guys might feel at not getting a qualifying offer. It's a business. I expect AHL guys, some college guys, and a few Europeans to flux in.

The team is also some weird sales nebulous blob right now. There was a group looking to buy but they backed off, and the owners afaik, still want to sell. That has some impact, too, for the guys who want a more stable position.

The ECHL recently went through realignment, for divisional issues. I am cranky about that. They chopped down the number of divisions to four, but being in this division is weird. It was supposed to help cut down travel costs, but I am not happy with how it shook out. Looks like we drew the short straw alongside the Missouri Mavericks in being in a division to even out the numbers.

At least they don't have to go to Alaska.

They also changed the icing rule to no substitutions and no timeouts in this league.

Also. I am a they.

I like JP LaFontaine for entirely superficial reasons like how the announcer says his name and some YouTube Q&As. He plays alright and is a steady line guy. I am clinging to guys I know.

Also, in NHL/AHL related news, the Shark's signed signed Aaron Dell, who is a goalie, and I think has a good shot at getting the Shark's backup spot. I think he gets a cup of coffee and plays his heart out. I liked him while he was here.
