Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-07-26 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)I've seen people on tumblr claim it's inappropriate for someone over the age of 18 to interact with someone under the age of 18. Like, ever. I don't understand.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 09:46 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, it's wacky. Especially as there are a lot of mentorship programs that are all about giving kids older people to connect with if they don't have their own role models. Interacting with adults is good for kids, and helps them transition into adult society.
There's certainly things to be said about how adults shouldn't treat kids as contemporaries, ranging from sexualised stuff to leaning on them emotionally, but as usual the Internet takes this reasonable point of view and extends it to LITERALLY NEVER TALK TO A MINOR OR YOU ARE A PAEDOPHILE.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-07-27 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)And also, like, there are situations where a 19 year old and a 17 year old basically ARE contemporaries (last year of high school/first year of college, some work situations, and yes the CHL) and treating them like one is An Adult and the other is A CHILD!!! who needs PROTECTION from the scary adult!!! is just, what?

(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)Extremists are usually the ones being made fun of.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-07-28 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)It's all especially ironic given that the vast majority of actual abuse of minors comes from their family, not from random people outside it.
Re: Fandom Venting
(Anonymous) 2016-07-30 07:18 am (UTC)(link)about 90% of kids are molested by family or at least people they know (first link has a table at the bottom breaking down that 90%. second has infographics for a quick overview and a bunch of "read more" links that include the source of the statistics.)
