It's really hard to sell a house with walls that aren't painted white. People get turned off by the color and then don't want to buy it, even though paint is the cheapest easiest fix in the world. They'll let all kinds of structural issues go, but heaven forfend they don't like the wall color.

I was apartment hunting recently and saw a place where the current tenants had painted all of the walls pea green, and the landlord wasn't willing to repaint for a few more years. I knew it was mostly irrational since it was a nice apartment otherwise but I ended up not trying to get it. It's silly for a house that you're buying though.

My parents' old house has all the downstairs rooms painted lime green. Like mint ice cream. They were renting but got so fed up they asked the landlord if they could repaint, taking all the cost themselves. Landlord said fine as long as it was a neutral colour.

Anything was more neutral than that shade of green.
