What did Tortorella do now?

He said that if one of his players didn't stand during the anthem, they weren't skating in that game.

What a dumbass thing to say.

1) There's no chance any of his players were planning not to stand.
2) Hockey players don't rise for the national anthem. They are already standing out on the ice. At most, someone could choose to take a knee or bow their head and place their hands behind their back when the anthem starts.
3) If you force people to stand, then you render standing meaningless.

2) If they're a goalie, they might be performing a jig through the anthem anyway. How would you even tell if they were protesting?

I find it kind of silly to have a bunch of Canadians, Swedes, Russians, etc. do anything for the U.S. anthem, anyway. I'd be okay just not playing the anthem before sporting events in general, though.

I don't care so much about the anthem, but I wish they'd stop with the salute to soldiers and military personnel.

There was a discussion on reddit last year about how Ovi sometimes starts skating midway through the anthem, but fans don't really mind (although sometimes he gets booed). Caps fans, is that a regular thing that he does? :)

I just wish people would sing the damn song. I've had enough of your American Idol wannabe "interpretation." Interpret in the fucking shower and in front of a television audience please just sing the song as written.

Pens, Sens crack up during anthems

Crosby tries his best to keep a straight face during the US anthem while Karlsson just loses it during the Canadian anthem. "Lemme hear ya!!" :D

Oh, and the Phantom of the Opera once angsted his way through the anthem!

But he said something to the effect of 'if anyone's planning on sitting out during the anthem, they can sit out for the entire length of the game too'.

Shout out to the Washington Spirit owner for taking the pressure off Torts by making a new and impressively *yikes* statement in the anthem debate.
