I would agree, but I think the Friedman story definitely made it sound like a "big 'personality'/too much 'personality' overshadowing the real star McDavid" issue, rather than Taylor Hall is a downer and not a pleasant person to be around (which imo does matter a lot in a work environment). That's just the impression I got, but I'd prefer it if you were right. I do think that fandom itself also tends use "personality" and "nonconformity" to mean the same thing, for whatever reason.

Saying Hall has too much personality is probably better that outright saying he's an ass/aggressive downer.

Or a self-centered dick.

But putting my bias aside I do wonder if "too big a personality" is the nice way of saying something that Is actually more unflattering??

Considering how Chiarelli and the Bruins trashed Seguin on the way out, I think they might have just said it.

They still framed it in terms of overshadowing McDavid, though. I fully believe that he is a douche and might have been traded because of that, but the quotes from players made it seem like the issue was that he was a louder douche than McDavid and they needed to find a way around that.

If they believed that, they probably would have had McDavid live elsewhere last year, but the front office seemed totally onboard with him living with Hall.

Yeah, exactly. The Friedman article specifically framed it as the players believing the trade was because of McDavid. Even if he was a downer (for a perfectly understandable reason, like the Oilers were a toxic work environment, or something else entirely) that's not the context from the players, which I think becomes the problem.

McDavid himself has also been pretty complimentary of Hall in several recent interviews, so there's that.

McDavid himself has been
