(Anonymous) 2016-09-26 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)I specifically talked about using meme as a resource? And, honestly, when I've seen factual errors regarding my faves, they were things that could have been discovered by checking Wikipedia and/or looking at a single recent photo. It's hard to write new teams, and sometimes to write lesser-known players on teams you do follow, but you can't tell me someone put in even a minimal effort and still got the year of captaincy wrong.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-26 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)Yes, I know? My point was most people aren't on deke and in fact actively avoid it if they know about it, in my experience. "Just ask deke" is not a viable solution for most people.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-26 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)Right, but I talked about what I would do (I'm here, obviously), and appealing to meme was just one of the things I would try, if I had a burning desire to write an AU where knowing another team would obviously be important? Even if I am just writing a quick game scene, I will look it up to see if the person I'm putting on the PK might realistically play on the PK. I haven't done a crossteam fic in awhile, but when I did, I looked up rosters/interviews/descriptions of previous games, etc. I'm not saying there's no way I could ever get anything wrong, but it's not like it's completely impossible to check yourself on details. Again, the person sub thread OP complained about missed info available on Wikipedia. That's not coming up against a giant dearth of information. That's not caring enough to look anything up.
Re: Fic Discussion - Jultz
(Anonymous) 2016-09-26 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)I get that, but a lot of information you can find just by checking Wikipedia or doing a simple google search? That was how I first started information and primers about my team, not through anyone I knew on tumblr. And -- the original complaint was about a Flyers!Geno AU -- surely if you're going to write that AU, at least look up who was on the roster those years?
Idk I don't necessarily blame people for not doing that research when they're writing fic that's mostly about indulging their feelings in their own team/their own favs, but I don't blame others for getting annoyed at seeing their favs used as "tools" either.
