Bergy = Patrik Berglund
Mags = Magnus Paajarvi
Gunny = Carl Gunnarsson

It probably is a good idea to let people know which person with a common nickname you're referring to, but the picture was on Paajarvi's instagram and he tagged Berglund's insta in his comment about it, so it wasn't totally impossible to figure out who the two guys pictured were if you clicked the picture.

That assumes a baseline interest. Most people are probably just not going to care instead of parsing through another team's generic nicknames for people they don't recognize.

If you don't care enough to click on the picture that's linked (to an account with one of the guys names right there), then why complain about not knowing who they are?

I might be interested in clicking through to the picture if I first knew who they were instead of treating instagram links like a box of chocolates.

I mean, if I'm curious about a link I click it to see who it is. If I'm not interested enough to click, I go on about my day and don't bother complaining that I have no idea who the people in the picture I didn't even look at are. But you do you, anon.

Well, most people were joking about who this non-Bergeron Bergy was and where he found a Mags, but keep up the judginess.

AYRT Well, yes, when I clicked the picture I saw that it was not the Patrice Bergeron "Bergy" and the user names were right there for all my clicking pleasure. I was just rambling about the nutty thought process I went through when I read the sentence in the post because I thought someone else might find it amusing.

I mean, obviously clicking through to the picture cleared up everything since Mags Bennett on Justified was played by Margo Martindale, a lovely and very talented woman but not one who could be confused for a hot Swedish hockey player. :D

And here I was picturing Marc Bergevin/Magneto.

You expect me to be way more competent at parsing Instagram speak than I am. It didn't occur to me that bulish21 was also someone named Bergy, for example.

If you click on the account it says his name right at the top, though, and Bergy is a logical shortening of Berglund? I wouldn't really call that any sort of special instagram speak. It would be like someone having a twitter account that's not their actual name and clicking on their account to find their actual name listed in the profile.

AYRT

I had no idea I needed to click the account. I didn't connect bulish with the person the OP was talking about. I thought it was a third person.

Possibly just a difference in the way we use Instagram, then. I get bored and browse players' accounts sometimes and there are way too many hockey players to recognise them all off-hand, so I just automatically check to see if a picture is tagged/other accounts are tagged in the comments to find out who's pictured.

(And I'll stop there just to be on the safe side, lest this somehow summon more face blindness wank.)
