THE RULES

On the one hand, I want more fic about exploitative, controlling parents and the aftermath that has on players. OTOH, I don't want that for RL parents who've done terrible things.

I get that reluctance. I admit this is a purely iddy desire; Barrie seems to really love his dad, even taken with the whole asking him multiple times not to draft him thing.

I guess in my mind, there are different levels. I wouldn't be interested in a fic about Bobby Ryan's father beating him up, for example. But your average white collar scumbaggery isn't on the same level as that.

DA But being drafted by your Dad is kind of embarrassing (regardless of him being a crook) and people would give you shit about it forever, so I don't know if I'd take that as a reflection on their relationship.

I guess people have already done it with the fics about Jack Johnson's parents.

Yeah, I kind of ate up a lot of the more tragic Bobby Ryan fics before he joined the Sens and also turned out to be kind of a dick. (Though the actual thing he wrote about his mom made me cry.) But his father wasn't in them. Honestly, I would want abuse recovery fics more for a non-rpf fandom, or one with heavy OCs, or something.
